    sport suspension or non?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
this might be a dumb question but i just got my 98 v6 and i want to lower it. from researching, the springs i decide to get coincide with whether or or not i have the sport suspension. my question is how do i tell if i have that or not??
i know i should get shocks too but money is tight right now so ill plan on getting shocks in the near future. thanks!

    Re: sport suspension or non?

Look at your shocks. If they are red, you have sport. If black, non-sport

...or if your suspension has been discolored or warn in the last decade, call the dealership and read them your VIN

if you don't have sport then you'd know it! try to imagine a non-sport gap being larger... it's blasphemy

    Re: sport suspension or non?

Forget calling the dealer, you can decode the car yourself.

Check the sticker in the spare-wheel well (should also be on the first page of your service-interval manual. One of the three-digit codes would be 1BE = sports suspension/shock absorption.

If you want to run all of the codes to really tell what is on the car go to the following link:

The ride height is rather obvious when comparing sports stock to regular stock. It's like a 2 finger gap compared to like a 4-5 finger gap.

    Re: sport suspension or non?

the sport suspension doesnt matter when it comes to buying shocks and springs, it just wont lower it as much as it would with non-sport susp.

yup. but you run a risk of blowing your shocks earlier. some people do it with NO problems, but eventually it wont last as long. Some will tell you just to save up for a whole package or coilovers.
