it's been part of the dash for some time and thought i should get serious to clear it up. my local shop gave this code and description: 01217-007=side, airbag igniter driver side, n199 short to ground. could this be the connection under the seat? thanks for your help.

    Re: airbag light on...no vagcom

I had the Air BAG light ON before. Guess why? The dealer did some repairs on the seat, in my case it was the driver's seat. When they put back the seat, I got the Air Bag light continuously ON all the time, until they removed the seat and hooked up the wires correctly.

    Re: airbag light on...no vagcom

I dont feel comfortable at all driving a car with the Air Bag light ON thinking I might crash in an accident and the damn thing would not pop out. Scary if you think about it. Sometimes thats what might save your life. I like the side air bags options as well.

    Re: airbag light on...no vagcom

i think the only way to repair is it by Vagcom. I know dougyfresh's airbag light came on and he cleared it with the vag. I, too, have the light but gonna have it cleared when I do my timing belt (in a month or so).

if you bring it to the dealership to clear it, they will charge you $90 just to diagnose it, eventhough you know what's wrong with it.

    Re: airbag light on...no vagcom

the dealership said it would cost anywhere from $150 to $1200 since they could not pin it down. i did not want to give them a signed check for an unknown amount. the local shop gave me this reading so i thought it could be the seat issue i have read about here.

    Re: airbag light on...no vagcom

Is the light solid or it goes away sometimes? It happened to me too a month go, light could stay on for a day, then it coould go away for a minute. A week after the light went away... (knocking on a wood)

    Re: airbag light on...no vagcom

as of just last night, my airbag light came on as well.
just picked it up from the dealer on thursday for exhaust work...

also, my front drivers window no longer goes down automatically, the alarm no longer beeps when i remote lock the car, and all 4 of my windows no longer go down when i hold my key in the door lock.
all after i picked it up from the dealer last week...
    hmmmmm...

    Re: airbag light on...no vagcom

I can shed a bit of light on this, I had this happen a couple months back.

Basically from what my shop told me, the airbag light is extremely touchy, and generally comes from the sensors in your seats which tell your airbag controller which bags to fire off in an accident. The connectors under your front seats are a weak link, and often need to just be unplugged, replugged, and vag'd to get it fixed (my shop also ziptied both airbag sensor wires to seat rails to keep them oriented in a certain manner).

So you should likely take this to a shop, my little local audi shop fixed this for free, but in the absence of that get it done at your stealership

Looks like most people agree here that its a under the seat issue. Good to know.
