i know that different width is staggering
but what is it called to do 18 in the front and 19 in the back?
someone told me that cars are supposed to have lower front and higher back so it is okay to try it. is it?

Yea, on a RWD platform, not a FWD or AWD.

Re: 18 inches in the front 19 inches in the back (it is not what you think)

It would actually be OK to do as long as you use lower profile tires in the rear so that the front and rear tires would end up having the same circumfrance. The cars do have center differentials, so even if there was a VERY SLIGHT difference in overall circumfrance, then it would still be OK. If these cars didn't have the center differential, then the transfer case would get screwed up at the first time taking a turn or driving with one of the tires low on air. Again though, only a VERY SLIGHT difference in circ.....
Tire Rack has or used to have a webpage to compare circumfrance of different tires and sizes. Obviously you would also want to measure yourself once the tires got mounted a tape measure or something of the sort.

Now that i think about it, I think it might actually look kinda cool to have that slight difference.

With the right tires, it will work fine and not fuck up ur quattro hardcore, but there's just not a reason to do it.

Beyond the technical issues...I believe the non-technical term is BUFugly

Keep 'em the same (either all 18's or all 19's) and you will be fine.

Lots of cars, including almost all exotics come with smaller front wheels than in the rear (diameter and depth).

It just depends on your style. But there is truth that with AWD you can start to hurt the drive train if you separate too far in size.
