    Simonizing..advice

So the dealer offered me this when i bought my car, and i was wondering if it is any good or has any disadvantages. It is suppose to keep the outside and inside of my car clean and repel stains, etc. Does it do what they say it does? Any advice or reviews on this?

    Thanks!

    Re: Simonizing..advice

I've managed quite a few detail departments at dealerships that sold the Simoniz System 5 package. Prices ranged from $300-$800+ depending on how big a sucker the purchaser was. If I recall correctly parts dept. cost was around $90-110 from Simoniz. I had customers that were led to believe it would protect them from things like shopping cart damage...

The ONLY plus side to Simoniz is the warranty provided by either Hartford or Travelers Insurance- which covered paint repairs if the finish was permanently damaged by acid rain or other contaminants that the package was 'designed' to protect against. Of the hundreds of applications I'd made only one returned for 'repairs'- and it was due to some sort of industrial fallout that etched part of the hood/roof. If you're any kind of enthusiast this probably won't be of concern to you as most forum members notice these things and have it corrected before the damage is permanent.

And the interior protectant is just a fancy Scotchguard. Keep your leather conditioned with a water-repelling/pH balanced product for equal effectiveness.

But is there anything wrong or bad with the simonizing chemicals or process? I just want to make sure that my seats are protected from stuff like coke spills and that sort of thing.

    Chemically, no.

But I do suggest you read the warranty before making your decision.

This is the equivalent of when dealers used to sell "undercoating" back in the 80s and 90s until customers picked up on the fact that it was complete bunk. The cost of the product is far less than the $90 - at least other brands that dealers use.

My opinion... don't spend your money on this. Polish/Wax twice a year and you're good to go if not better off than having this 'protectant' applied.

    +1

Mike, I received that Glanz sample and put it to use on a client's Suzuki Boulevard. Easy on/Easy off, just what I was looking for in a new product. Thanks!
