Well I headed to the track for a race event on saturday. Entered a heads up street class, but since I got there late I only got 2 runs to qualify for the class. On my first run I spun 1st gear pretty bad pulling a 1.6 60 ft (damn that 35psi in the tires), I also made a mistake of trying to run a little more boost in 4th gear and the car started to misfire so I coasted a little more then the last 320 ft for a 11.1 at 110 mph, my 1/8th was 7.0 at 104+ mph. After about another hr of waiting my class was called up for our last run, I ended up bogging the launch with a 2.1 60 ft and running 11.3 at 134.9 mph. I have it on video but still need to upload it to the lap top and then host it. Car actually misfired in 4th gear one time on that run and then pulled hard again.

I ended up as #2 seed in my class even though I didn't make 1 good run yet. They then called us up for our first elimination race, when I pulled over to the staging lane they told me that I was DNQ'd for no cage, but the shitty part of it is that the officials allowed the #1 qualifier to keep racing even though he didn't have a cage either. I then tried to get 1 more run in later that night and they ended up closing the test and tune lane while I was 5 cars from the front of the line, just another way they screwed me that day.

Now I just wish some people would actually do what they said they would so I can get my stupid cage in my car.

DAAAMMN! An 11.1 with spun tires off the line and a misfire! Thats sooo tight! That sucks though that your day did go so well. Sorry man. Good luck though

That will vary from track to track..and sometimes you can get away with it for a while, it allll depends.

I've seen guys at ATCO run sub 11.5's all day, week after week and not get hustled for a cage.

hey mike. was that here at irwindale TNT?? wish i would have gone maybe you could let me know next time you go so i can check out the car.... cf hood and trunk just got installed. got it installed at wetworksgarage. and i dont remember there being a dent in the middle of the hood but there is now. the dent looks like it poping out its wierd, i have to call them up tomarrow hope they can fix it.

Well I have only been asked not to run again 1 time and that was the day I ran my 10's at SAC. This weekend I was just kicked out of the class I was running in and was told I could run in the TNT line or run in the bracket(dial in) class. They asked me to try and keep it at 11.5 or slower if I did make another run, but I was going to run full out to see if I could beat my 10.69.

That will vary from track to track..and sometimes you can get away with it for a while, it allll depends.

Well this was a national event(BOTI), so its a bit different then just running TNT at the track. I ran 11.04 at 133 at fontana not long ago and they didn't say anything at all.


Already have plans to go bigger, just have to figure if I want to just throw another turbo on this manifold or wait to do the twin scroll.

Well I left with a car that wasn't broken so it wasn't all that bad and it was better then having to work.

No, this was at Sac Raceway for the Battle of the Imports.

Yeah there wasn't a dent on the hood when we opened the box at your house. Someone might have put some weight on the hood while they were installing it, it should have just fixed it self unless they cracked the CF.

There is always plenty of races here in socal, BOTI will be running at Fontana in Oct and there is also the Summit races at fontana that I try to run.

Ha, I am surprised the car didn't blow up... racing is problematic and with only 2 runs I think he did well!... but regarding the bog, maybe you shouldn't knock launch control after all.

But it is the same stories all the time when he races. Never really said anything bc I figured he was re-learning the car. Doesn't seem that is the real issue.

Agreed. When you are going that fast and running the snot out of the car things happen. My friend has spent more time in the pits tweaking his car between runs than actually running it [on particular race events]. One day at Raceway Park we had to drop his trans and replace the torque converter because his launch stripped the teeth on the input shaft. And his car (81 malibu wagon) was running about a sec faster than Mike's but had twice the power and weight. Now its sold and he's building a faster Firebird.

I have only ran the car 1 time(2 runs) between this weekend and when I ran the 10.69 and that was just a rolling start test to see how well my new catch can setup was working when pushing it to 8500 rpms, that run had around a 2.4 60 ft time since I wasn't trying to launch the car and it ran 11.04 at 133 mph at fontana. The other run that day ended when I missed 3rd gear, put it in 5th and then into 3rd, that run still put me in the 12's.


This weekend I only got 2 runs in my car and on one of those runs I tried running more boost which did not work out so I had to lift off the throttle, up till that point the car the run was on target for a mid 10 second run seeing that my 1/8th mile was 7 flat. My 2nd run I just didn't get the rpms up high enough to launch out of the hole so the car bogged and it wasn't like I was trying my hardest anyway since I knew I already had the 2nd fastest time in the class with my first run.

You act like I really need to try 100% every time I run my car to prove my driving skills? Sorry but I run my car for me not for anyone else so it isn't like I need to make a perfect pass every time to prove to myself that I know how to drive, at least I run the car hard even after a bogged launch when most people would just end the run after that. I was happy with the 11.1 with the 7.0 1/8th mile and 11.3 run seeing that both were bad runs and around 90 degs when I made those runs.

I had to reset my launch control settings which I did just before heading up to Sac, but I still need to play with the rpm setting and I had problems just spinning the tires the last time I used it with this tune which was at the GI event. Also take in account it was just hot as hell during the day when I made my 2 runs, I was waiting to really push my car hard when it cooled down but didn't get a chance to run once the sun went down.

Not sure, I had to leave at 7am yesterday morning since I needed to be at Fiber Images at 2pm to pick up some parts.

It was painted when I replaced it after the car got wrecked on the trailer in 2005. The front bumper and both stock fenders were painted at that time.

Just figured if you put a 100% into the car that you would always put a 100% into a run and try to keep beating your best. Weather or not you need to in your class bc you had already won. Just figured you would keep trying to push the setup to see what you can squeeze out of. Wasn't trying to bash you. Just talking to you in the standards at which you can compete in. I know you have the skills and I just want to see you make it happen. I love Audis alot and love seeing creations like these.

I was running the car 100% on the first run but the car wasn't running right once I hit the button on my steering wheel to bump the boost up above 32psi causing the car to start running bad which is why I ended up coasting for over 320 ft to the finish line. All you have to do is look at my 1/8th mile to see I was going flat out, unless you think 7.0 at 104+ mph is slow for running in 90+ deg temps and a 2200 ft DA?

My other run was just a bad launch because I wasn't high enough in the rpms before releasing the clutch to cut on ok light, I am not one to sit at the light to end up with a slow ass reaction time just to get a good launch. But still 11.3 at 134.9 mph with a 2.1 reaction time isn't exactly slow either and is still faster then every A4 and about 99% of the S4's on this site.


Believe me and you can ask Gregs wife which was in my car when I went to get into line to make another pass, I had planned to make another full out run. When I got to the staging lanes the official told me to keep it under 11.5 and when I looked at Gregs wife I just made this face like "Yeah right". She was busting up after that. I sat in line for an hr waiting to run and then they decided to call off any more TNT runs.

Thats good for you, but I am a "racer" and I am racing against the car next to me. The class I entered uses a Pro Tree, so I was trying to get used to reacting to it on my second pass. My first pass they gave me a sportman tree since my class had just ran a bit before they finished with me in tech and ran me after a bracket group.
