Remote Control

Hi there!!
I have just purchased a B5 S4 and let me tell u..what a machine..Theres only a problem..Since the batteries in the remote control where almost dead i decided to buy new one...to my surprise when i replaced the batteries the remote wouldnt open or close my doors..I cheked to see if i had bought the right batteries and i did.
I was told that sometimes when u do a battery change the remote resets and u have to program it...
The problem is that i have no idea how to!!
If someone could help me with this problem i would really appreciated since i only have one remote key and a vallet key; which is the one that im using right now!!

Once you swap the batteries in the remote, you have to use the key to unlock/lock the door and it will re-pair with the central locking computer.

Here's a detailed method:

1. Take the valet key, put it into the ignition and turn the key to the "on" position, just prior to starting the car.

2. Put down the driver's side window (not required, but a good idea in case there's a problem).

3. Exit the car and close the door.

4. With a second key, physically lock the doors (don't use a remote).

5. Take the first remote to be programmed, press one of the buttons and the lights will flash once. Wait 10 seconds and press the unlock button. The doors should unlock. That first transmitter is now programmed.

My problem is similar, except my key has a very, very short range, I literally have to right next to my door in order for it to lock/unlock, otherwise no worky... The thing is this is the only key that I got soooo, I was thinking to get new ones but I don't have the code for the key... lol I was wondering can they make me a key if I give them my VIN number?

Can you also do this through the rear lock? My driver door lock never worked. Well i can unlock the door and lock it but it will never activate the alarm or lock/ unlock the other doors. I checked the connections in the door and used electric cleaner and never fixed it.
