Hey guys i am going to buy a vag cable soon, however right now i have the regular OBDII that just reads codes off my ecu. Much like my Bank 2 sensor 2 O2 Sensor that comes up every 8 minutes.. However is this the cable that i need just the 20 dollar cable off ebay? If that was the case i feel like everyone would have a vag-com http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/USB-V...spagenameZWDVW

    Thanks.

Someone please direct me the right way.

I will assume you have a laptop. You will need to download the software from Ross-Tech.com for the cable to work. But since it is the free version, you can not get full use of the software. You would need to purchase a lisence key. But I read on a thread yesterday or so that a different individual was able to just source out the software over the internet and was able to have almost a complete version of Vag Com.

Choose the correct software you would need from here.
If you decide to purchase the license key, it is $99 and the link is here.

I just bought the same cable as well, I'm not familiar with the software, however I do know it supports serial connections, try seeing it it's selectable within the preferences whether it connects through a USB or serial COM port.
"invalid com port" sounds like it's trying to connect through a serial connection almost. the ebay seller has some serious feedback so I doubt it's the hardware.
