Ebay SS, If you havent yet IDK WTF you're waiting for!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Got mine in the mail yesterday and spent 2.5 hours after work putting it in. I cant believe how easy it was to install, extremely straight forward, easily done with basic tools, and fantastic results.

Hands down best $47 I have spent on the Audi so far. Dont let people talk you out of buying the ebay kit because its $100 cheaper than B&M.

Car is a totally different animal now! Amazing shifting, zero play in the stick, feels solid, and deleted the push-down reverse.

A little tip- When trying to install any of the bolts during reinstallation. Put the Torx socket into the bolt and use a dab of hot glue or a piece of a masking tape to keep the bolt and the socket one piece while you try to line up your linkage to bolt it all together.

Not a single dropped bolt or screw!

Re: Ebay SS, If you havent yet IDK WTF you're waiting for!

Agreed, the eBay SSK is 100% better than stock and well worth the money; while B&M is not (as it is the exact same thing for $100 more).

The only issue is that the JHM kit is light years ahead. Yes, I have both, and they can not even be compared...JHM is beyond belief. Worth the extra money, yes, if you want the most out of your shifts. Don't get me wrong, my eBay shifter on my 1.8T is just fine, but no where near the smooth and quick shifts from the full JHM kit on the 2.8.

Basically if you are spending the big bucks and want top performance, go with JHM and you will never, ever regret it; want a decent SSK at a low price go eBay.

y would u wanna get rid of the pop down reverse?? u could easily mistake it and put the car in reverse...i know this because i had the ebay SS and I hated that i had to slowly put it into 1st because it was soo close to the reverse. Now with my JHM kit and i can just throw the shifter into 1st and know that its not in reverse.

Re: Ebay SS, If you havent yet IDK WTF you're waiting for!

Huh? First is nowhere near reverse. The only possible way to mistake reverse for a gear would be 4th gear and even then you would have to pull down and to the right from third while shifting instead of directly back into 4th from 3rd. Maybe S4's are different, reverse in the B5 is where 8th gear would be.

That and the car will not allow you to accidently hit reverse while moving at high speed. Remeber, facelift B5's DO NOT have push down reverse from the factory.

oooh my bad, b5 a4...the rev in a 6spd s4 is to the left and up, which is the same movement as putting it in 1st, i felt it was highly dangerous when i had it installed. Hey, if it works for the b5 a4 thats cool. I did like the feeling of the ebay SSK, the only flaw I found when installed as the no pop down reverse for the b5 S4. But, I agree with CycloSteve, the JHM kit is insane. I wouldn't substitue the ebay SSK for another other kit besides the JHM kit.

I've also tried the UUC SSK and it was garbage.

I got the B&M, and it's okay, but I really don't notice a hell of a difference (not for the price, at least)... maybe I'll get a JHM one when I have some money to blow on my car again.

u dont notice a difference from the stock shifter??

    1. maybe u have it on the wrong setting...i believe the B&M SS's have 3 settings. 10% reduction, 20% and 35/40%..you might have it installed in 10% which would barely make a difference.

    2. if u bought the car used...maybe it already had a SS installed. If it did, it would explain the reason y u dont feel a difference.

If you drove an Audi with the stock shifter you would die lol. Its literally a night and day difference.

It was definitely the stock shifter in there, and I'm pretty sure I set it at 35% (I checked the settings twice before I put it back in). The throws are a bit shorter (a couple of friends who have driven it before and after have mentioned it), but it just doesn't seem all that I expected it to be... then again, maybe I've just gotten used to it by now and want to see if there's anything better out there.

At any rate I don't have any more money to put into modding my car any more for a while... If I get bored some day maybe I'll pull it out and double check the setting and lube it up some more.

I picked up a stratmosphere off of eBay for 10$ shipped....

it has push down reverse and it shortened the shifts substantially....

the only thing I didn't like was that it kept almost stock shifter height....

I took a hack-saw to it and cut about an inch and a half off of it and I love it!

SS is definately a great investment!

When I got my short shifter 2 years ago it was night and day and really stiff. Now its just back to being somewhat sloppy again. The shifts are still shorter than a stock one for sure. I'd never want to use the stock shifter ever again.

Ill do you guys one better,

    [http://stores.ebstores.us/Items/MRSS...2099%2000%2001 <---- To be specific.

Thats their regular store, they have a link to their ebay kits as well. Pretty much any ebay kit that shows all the springs and bushings and O-rings is the kit you want. Even came with Poly bushings for the linkage and the assemly rods.

Go buy one now, seriously, then come back here and tell everyone how good it is. I had Zero issues with install and fitment.

The JHM shifter for the B5 S4 6speed doesn't remove the push down, they only do that for the ndbw B5 a4 because it is no where near 1st gear and reverse has a lock out while the car is moving so it isn't like your going to put it into reverse instead of 4th.

Can someone tell me the cons of getting a SS? I hear if it isn't positioned right, you won't be fully in gear which can cause problems. Also, it's near impossible to miss a gear with a stock shifter; how much more attention do I have to pay to make sure I don't screw up gears?

If I bought one, which I am seriously considering lately and am about to pull the trigger on it, it would be an Ebay SS.

I bought an eBay SS kit when I had my A4, and the throws were definitely shorter, but much less smooth. I went back to stock within 2 weeks. Throws were longer, but felt much better. Stock was smoother and gave my synchros a little rest if nothing else.

Of course if you do not tighten down the linkage on center you will not get all gears. But with the B5 A4 transmissions this is really not an issue to worry about. 6-speeds on the other hand do require a bit more patience.

Actually, with a stock shifter the real feel of the shifting is dampened with rubber, plastic and sloppiness. Our shifter and linkage upgrades make shifting very precise. Our B5 A4 Trio Package (in my opinion) brings the best shifting experience to date.

The shifter literally slides from gear to gear with the effort of your pinky finger. You will not have to pay any extra attention. Ask anyone with our shifter, solid linkage upgrade and delrin bushing. For some people though it's something you really have to experience to believe.

Exactly why I stuck with stock because all of the short shifters in the cars I was asked to drive just felt notchy. Then I tried the JHM in my car and not only was it very smooth to the point that I no longer have to think about getting it into the right gear it was a huge improvement over stock. I would have to say it feels smooth like stock without all the movement and with a much shorter throw.

I agree with most that for what this is worth is it a nice upgrade!! Easy install to!

I did have some extra parts that came with the kit like that big spring anyone have an idea what its for??

If you are going to attempt this be sure to have -Circlip tool -6mm Allen socket - red thread locker - I used lithium grease but any would work!
