    ok so i picked up a borg warner k04-20 its brand new and it honestly looks legit i i checked the serial numbers and all. i had a few questions im going to start the install once my gaskets and bolts come in from ecs but i was wondering if i need to buy new oil supply and return lines, or can i use my stock k03 lines? and also is this turbo better thn the k03-15?

    IIRC the k04-20 is for the transverse 1.8t.

    Looks like you might want to sell that on vwvortex.com for $250 or so and put that towards the proper turbo for our cars.

    im still not set on selling it ill send u a pm once ive thought it through, but i was just curious what would i need to make this work, custom downpipe? and adapters? ive got a guy who makes turbo adapters so thts no problem and same goes for a custom downpipe my friends dad owns windy city mufflers so i can get it made from there.

    the exhaust side should bolt up. It is a matter of being able to clock it correctly and have the waste gate actuator line up. Then the compressor housing may be too long and need cut or modified. I am actually running two k04-20s in k0425/26 exhaust housings on my s4. I had to reclock them, cut and weld bungs on the compressor housing, and the wastegates ended up a bit cobbled but they make decent power imo.

    damn i dont know about all hte cutting, maybe i can modify the intercooler piping instead? because i really wouldnt feel comfortable hacking apart a brand new turbo lol

    You will have to open up the turbo housing and remove the compressor / exhaust turbine as a single unit and swap into your K03 housing. It is supposed to fit as far as I know.

    The housings are machined for the bigger wheels

    yea it would be but for the price i got this for id still be saving alot of money. if its going to be a hassle ill just get rid of it, i just wanted to know what i needed to do to make this work, i guess ill start by taking off my k03 and if the k04 doesnt fit ill swap the turbines like 04A41.8TCVT said and if theres a huge risk involved in doing so ill just sell it to someone with a vw

    there's also the problem of finding a program to properly run this thing.

    I'm not sure what your options are going to be, but you might have to have a custom program done.

    GUYS!!!!! he didn't didn't even look into it enough to buy the right turbo...... do you REALLY think he is goign to be able to disassemble a turbo and successfully get it reassembled and properly balanced (no offense Beesix)? maybe oyu ment for him to take it somewhere to have it done. as far as i am concerned, i'll rip just about anything on my car apart including the tiptronic transmission without to much though but the two turbos that i did take apart required a real shop to rebuild after i touched them because i messed them up. telling him to swap the turbines is not good advice unless he has done it before. Not to mention, the K03 housing is DIFFERENT, the turbines are different size and the K03 would need to be machined out to fit!

    Beesix, Face the fact that you F-ed up and just sell the one you got because it is the wrong part for your car and get the right one. If you try to make this one work your only going to dig yourself deeper into the mess and create issues that your going to be fighting until the car dies. If you had done your research before pulling the trigger you would have seen that the K04 won't give you too much more power and it would have been best just to skip it all together and save your money for a real upgrade.

    Remember your car won't run for crap after you install the turbo until you get a K04 flahs for it. Does anyone know if Revo makes a K04 file? i have never heard of one (S1 is just the flash, S2 is EFIs, and S3 is BT), kinda doubt they don't have one or can't make a custom for you though, but you will need a re flash one way or the other. I also don't' see an FMIC in your mod list, that would be a very good idea to have.

    Sorry if this post comes across harsh but you should have researched this before throwing your money away.

    You plan on having your IC pipe go thru your roof? Because if you mount the turbo the way it is the outlet is going to stick straight up in the air. This means you need to spin(clock) the compressor wheel nearly 180 deg to get the outlet to face downward, but the problem is the wg actuator and there might not even be a way to mount it when you clock it.


    You will need to make it look like the K04-15.

    it honestly doesnt matter, i bought this turbo for dirt cheap as some of you know, i dont care if its the wrong part, i can flip it for ALOT more than i bought it for, i saw it on craigslist k04 ran the serial numbers it was real and brand new, who cares if it doesnt fit, i do have a front mount and a revo 2 flash all i have to do s play with boost and timing and it will work, but thats if i decide to mount it, i would have never gone the k04 route but for the unbeatable price i got it for it doesnt even matter, i completely understand your point and i am not offended at all if you got this turbo for the price i did you would understand and you or any other members wouldnt care either

    might as well go with a K16 if you're going to stay with a BW turbo over a Gt series . . . still need a new manifold and custom tuning. Not worth it IMO.

    I'm happy with my K04 . . .

    edit: sell the turbo you bought to someone on ebay . . . . pool the money and buy one that fits with a kit.

    If going BW might as well go with their newest S200/S300 series turbos which use a T3/T4 flange.
