Re: Which way to mount rotors?

Emil I believe you can mount them either way but the top picture I believe is correct. If you run them the opposite way it will just wear the rotor quicker than it should but it wont be disastrous.

If they are rotating clockwise in these pictures, then the top is correct.

think of the brake assembly i have pictured mounts on the driver side (in both cases) which means they would be spinning CCW.

Re: Which way to mount rotors?

You can't tell anything whatsoever from the pictures. What determines the orientation are the cooling vanes in the rotor. They are what move the air and get the job done. Slots have nothing to do with it and different manufacturers do it different ways.

SO, that means, if that lower picture is your left front rotor and it would rotate counter clockwise while driving FORWARD, you have them on correct.

Re: Which way to mount rotors?

Again, manufacturers cut slots both ways. What really matters is the internal layout of the rotor. If they have straight vanes it doesn't matter. Otherwise they are mounted so that air flows from the inside to the outside. The reason that link says it is so important to face the drilled rotors the correct way is because the vanes control how they are drilled. Again, it all comes down to the internal vanes. That is what cools a rotor.

The slots are 99% cosmetic and don't really matter. They are theoretically there to cut the gas "pad" between the pad and rotor but that hasn't been an issue in decades. The only pads that really create that gas "pad" are race pads and that gas needs to be there otherwise the rotors get trashed very very quickly. I ran drilled and slotted rotors on the track and filled all the little holes and slots with expensive ceramic pad material which left them completely useless anyway.

Re: Which way to mount rotors?

Off topic, SW08 is crazy cool. I've used every version since 99 and this is by a wide margin the largest improvement/change they've ever made. Took a while to get used to the new layout but it is awesome. Cartoon cad got even better.

Yea, what he ^^ said. I've actually got the fronts going one way and the rear going a different way. Follow the veins, not the slots

Re: Which way to mount rotors?

Most are straight. You'll usually know based on the price you paid. I don't think ECS carries anything with angled veins for stock replacement. DBA and possible STaSIS are some of the few I can think of.

Re: Which way to mount rotors?

when the vanes are straight it doesnt really matter. when they are angled, stoptech at least recomends, that the vanes angle rearward at the top.
