I bought a K&N drop in filter. Its the correct type and everything but its about an inch shorter than the oem one in my stock box right now.

Is this how its supposed to be?

    Re: Air Filter Replacement

I bought the drop in K&N filter and it didn't fit right. Plus...the oil from the filter messed up my MAF sensor. I even cleaned the MAF with CRC and it didn't clean it enough so I had to replace the entire sensor. Needless to say went back to the OEM until I can get the Carbonio. Might want to let the K&N sit out and dry the oil for a bit before installing.

To answer your question, I don't know about shorter, but definitely not as thick. Fit just fine on mine, did you verify the correct part number?

    Re: Air Filter Replacement

Ya I called K&N and everything, they told me the exact same thing you did, it should be the exact same size but not as thick.

33-2209 is the part number on the filter.

Is there like a second air filter somewhere else? and i am just trying to replace the wrong one?

I dont know what the heck is going on.

    Re: Air Filter Replacement

That is the right part # IIRC. It drops right in. It looks slight smaller than the stock paper filter, but it does fit.

    Re: Air Filter Replacement

Yep, that's what is on my car. There's a lot more room in the box with it on, but it should seal up quite nicely. I still have the paper filter, in case, it was replaced during the CPO inspections.

It should be facing towards the engine.
