Right rear light code...but not blown??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I got this back in January and it cleared itself without a buld replacement.
It happened again this morning and I checked, and again...the brake lights both work!
    Bad connection maybe somewhere?
    Anyone else experience this?
    Thanks

I experience it off and on all the time. Also with my front left parking light. Its really annoying because it isn't blown at all and will work a few starts later. I haven't had time to look into it yet. Let me know what you find.

Try replacing the left rear fog light.

Really? Does that have any relevance to the right rear light?

LoL...i didn't read the "right" part. Note to self: stop posting on Friday mornings.

Try just tightening the bulbs. It'll take like 2 minutes. Worst case scenario, try and replace the bulbs.

I have the same thing, I hit the light and it works. Its a bad connection in the bulb socket.

    ^lol, classic.

For my buddy, the OP, does your CEL say 'brake light' failure, or just something general like bulb out.. usually its pretty specific and I guess if it fixed itself with a replacement then you're dealing with the right bulb.

I would check your wires before the wire harness, the connection b/w the harness and your light, and try rescrewing the bulb like someone above mentioned. If none of those fix it, it's possible it's either a bad wire somewhere or maybe it's the socket..

Do you have the proper wattage bulb?

If you don't then you'll get the light on the dash but the tail lights themselves still work correctly.

The tail light bulb should be: OSRAM Sylvania 7528 12V 21w/5w double filament tail light bulb

I never replaced it. It happened back in January, but it went away on its own. I didnt replace it and it works ok everyday (except today )

    Thanks for the PN, though!

Most Euro 5Watt dual-filament bulbs will suffice. Just be sure you have the right prongs on the sides. I didn't use a slyvania, but still worked fine

Thats the same thing that I did on my H/L.

I took out the Bulb socket holder, and tweaked the contacts, and no problems since!

Try to reseat the bulbs. I had that problem and I just took it out and applied a little bulb grease and it's worked fine since.

Chalk another one up for Audi specific problems. Same problem here, I just took the bulb out and put it back in and that fixed the problem.
