Platinum VMR Integrated Vent Gauge Kit

Today I got my VMR kit for my B6 A4. Since I have the platinum interior I though I would give painting the kit a go.

Here is the picture vent as it came in the box. Black.

I first sanded it down so the paint would stick better. I used 100 grit, but it might have been a little to heavy. If I was to do it again, might use something a little finer.

Next I painted the gauge with some paint I got at the hardware store (ACE hardware). Its a pretty good match, maybe a little bit glossier than the stock finish on the vents, but this was as close as I could find. Rust Oleum 7754 Anodized Bronze. Did it in several coats, starting very light and working up a bit.

Here the gauge is installed in my car. I got a little trigger happy and installed it before it was perfectly dry. It looks pretty good except I know I scratched the fresh paint a bit when fitting the gauge just right. Regardless I'm pretty happy overall with the project. If you did know you probably wouldn't notice that I had painted it.

    Nice!

Is there much air hitting your face? I'd love to pick one up, but sacrificing some airflow for a boost gauge in the heat I'm in isn't possible...

There is definately still airflow. It probably is a little bit and a little harder to control, but I would just use the second vent to direct it over to the driver. Over all pretty good though.

    Nice pictures.

Do you think I can use your pictures, to show others how it could look like if they painted it?

    thanks.
