    Rotors (dimpled, slotted) Causing Noise?

Hi guys I've got a question, have any of you ever heard of dimpled and slotted rotors causing noise when you drive and/or brake?

I recently purchased a set of dimpled and slotted rotors and pads and had them installed (along with new suspension) and now when I drive I can hear this constant clicking sound (almost like a cricket) coming from all four wheels. I can only hear it when I have the windows down and am driving near something so the sound reflects back. The clicking sound increases when I increase speed and really increases when I brake.

I've taken the car back to the shop where I got everything installed and they've disassembled and reassembled the brakes, suspension and even the USP bumper I just had put on but nothing fixed it. They think it might be sound coming from the dimples on the rotors.

Has anyone ever come across something like this? The rotors were made to OEM spec for a B6 A4 and unfortunately I can't remember the brand of pads. They weren't high performance, just something with low brake dust.

Any help would be much appreciated, I'd really rather not have to buy a whole new set of rotors and get them reinstalled. Especially not when I don't even know if that's the real problem.

    Thanks!!

Those are Adam's rotors right? If so it is mentioned in his thread as normal and I believe it will dissipate as the rotors wear... I installed my slotted/dimpled on my rears but don't hear this noise... all though I think I may have installed them opposite of the normal way.. which has no bearing since the rears are flat and the fronts aren't directionally vented..I hope that helps

Yea, they are Adam's rotors. Thanks for the heads up. I just went back to the thread and he does indeed mention his rotors making a soft clicking/popping sounds, which is exactly what mine are making. Although I couldn't find where he said they will dissipate as the rotors wear. I sure hope they do. Adam refers to the sound as almost pleasant but it's honestly pretty annoying to me. I don't want people hearing my car clicking every time I drive by.

Anyway, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I wonder if anyone else has had this happen and if so, how long the sound will keep happening.

thats a normal characteristic of slotted/dimpled/drilled rotors...they make a clicking sound while braking. Its the pad sliding over the open areas

I have them too and I hate the sound. I wonder if it is the dimples or the slots making the noise. Sucks paying $525 (B6 S4 fronts) and considering going back to stock...

Re: Rotors (dimpled, slotted) Causing Noise?

Oh I can't hear them inside the car, music or not. I can only hear them when I have the windows down and am passing something which the sound can reflect off of. And with climate control there's almost never a reason to have the windows down.

I guess I just didn't realize that dimpled rotors did that. I don't particularly like the fact that my car is now constantly making clicking sounds is all. Whether I can hear it or not, I know it's there. But I certainly don't think it's worth it to buy a whole new set of rotors or go back to stock. The rotors work perfectly fine. It's probably just a preference thing and I probably should have done a little more research before getting the dimpled ones.

It's not all that big of a deal though, I was just worried when I first heard it that it might an issue with the suspension install or something like that.

Re: Rotors (dimpled, slotted) Causing Noise?

I get the sound too and it's annoying as hell. I personally like to have my windows down but luckily I listen to my music pretty loud so it helps, but when I'm in the mood for quiet that annoys me. I doubt the sound will ever go away and it does suck. I have factory blanks (B6 S4) that were machined with slots and dimples and they make noise.
