    Coolant Warning on DIS

    Hi Guys,

Had the clutch change finished yesterday.

But now the coolant warning comes on. My mechanic told me he checked the coolant lines/system and believes it is a faulty sensor and should be fine.

After I got home I saw the temps looked exactly the same as before I delivered the car. Coolant halfway (90 Celsius) and oil just below a notch over minimum (thermostat problem I believe). But the point is every reading is the same as before.

Coolant level is fine, pressure is there. The electronic fan turns on (the one on the right), not the left one (which I believe kicks in at different point)

I left it for 10hours in a pretty cold ambient and came back. I put the key in on On position (im assuming that is the position that lets u use the radio and AC and lights up the dash etc etc). When I put the key in the ON position the coolant warning came up again. All the temperatures were minimum and the coolant level is still above MIN.

    No Idea whats going on...?

    I'm thinking:
    1. I did believe I had a thermostat problem before (overcooling & poor mileage) but now related to overheating?
    2. Coolant temp sender. Heard of this failing/not secure, can't locate it.
    3. Bubble/air in the system.... but still seems pressurized
    4. Water pump. Doubt it, was changed only 17k miles ago. Not sure how to check

Did you check the plug under the coolant tank? If it is uplugged you will get a coolant warning light. MY guess is that he unplugged it to get the tank out of the way for the clutch install but forgot to plug it back in before he mounted it down with the 3 screws.

Wow, that is a good one because I always forget to plug that stupid plug in every time I remove the resevoir.

Ok I just had a look under the tank I see a plastic insert/hole and I guess that is where the plug goes.

    I see nothing loose though.

Since it's on the way to work I will drop by to the workshop.

I assume it is safe to drive if temps are ok or does that Plug influence anything else apart from diagnosis/readings.

Yes it is fine to drive it like that. That sensor just lets you know when your coolant is too low.

You can look for it yourself, just take the 3 screws out and pull the tank up/foward. Then just look for a loose plug that is about 6" long in that area.
