    Who has tried this...

Has anyone tried this? It looks very tempting especially with the nasty 91 oct fuel in Cali.

Pros/Cons if anyone has tried this and they gear it toward a A4.

    Re: Who has tried this...

I did 13% toluene, about two gallons, in a full tank of 91 to get 94 octane. I noticed a slight improvement but nothing great because i used too low of a proportion. I thought about doing 30% which gives you around 100 octane, but i read that toluene is a much more powerful solvent than normal gasoline and i worried about my rubber fuel lines and stuff.

So also remember that toluene is like 16 dollars a gallon. It's cheaper and probably better to just fill up with actual 100 or 104 octane race gas. I'm gonna try that pretty soon.

Still have one. In the article it stes that it doesn't leave any deposits and won't effect cats or o2 sensors. Have you tried it or just stating what you think would happen? Just curious and wanted to see if anyone has tried it and gotten good results, what better place to ask.

if you scroll down a bit somebody named uncle scotty says he hasn't had any ill effects but he doesn't say what engine he's got. the cats and 02 sensors are basically the same on every car. i'm considering doing this since 92 is 4.19 here and regular is 3.97

A gallon of unleaded 100 by my friends house is about 8.75 a gallon, putting in 20 bucks of that stuff usually made a nice difference. They also had the leaded 110 super juice which I ran as well (no cats) and that was a nice kick.

I'm tempted to try this though.

oh, cleaned you right up uh. Did you notice a performance increase at all with it? I run Chevron 91 because it's the only descent crap fuel Cali has. I can put a bottle of Lucas Boosted in and my car feels like it's a tad bit smoother and bosts better. I was wondering if I can get anything out of this?

People have posted lately that when they went looking for toluene, it was more then $12/gallon now vs the $6-$7 a gallon a few years ago. So basically it has gone up just like gas because it is used in fuels to raise the octane, so the demand for it has made its prices go up.

Just went and bought 5 gallons of VP 110 for $46, when I ask how much VP MS 109 they said $79 for a 5 gallon can which is what C16 used to be a few years ago and back then MS109 was only $7-$8 a gallon which means it has pretty much doubled in price in the last few years. The 110 went from $5 gallon a few years ago to just under $7. Sure glad I decided to tune on 110 instead of C16 which is most likely around $20/gallon now.

It didnt really make much difference.. my car was maxed out as it was in that current state. I didnt have a MBC so I couldnt raise the boost level either..

I could try it with my new setup, that should be a good test..

    Re: Who has tried this...

I have a friend with a lightning with a kenn bell sc on it running 22 pounds of boost. It runns low 11's high 10's with a small wet shot. He always uses premium gas with toluene because we can't get unleaded race gas here. He ran it for a year with a cat and never ruined the cat. He has been running it that way for five years total and has never had a problem. Here's some footage of it in action...
