Good Tires for 19'' VMR Reps

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi all, I am in the market for 19" V708 VMR Hypersilver rims and I am not sure which tires to get. Is tirerack my best bet? I am currently in San Diego, CA so should I be looking for high performance summer tires or HP all-season tires? Any particular tires that you all recommend? Thanks.

Re: Best & Cheap Tires for 19'' VMR Reps

So you're looking to cheap out on your premium luxury sedan by putting replica rims and bargain tyres.

    Nice.

Anyways, tirerack.com is certainly your best bet. But if you don't mind a half hour on the phone get a quote and call around to local shops to see if you can get a lower price. You'll be able to bargain down either tirerack or the local vendor.

    I'd recommend:

    - Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position
    - or Potenza RE01R

    - General Exclaim UHP

    - Falken FK452
2013 Touareg TDI Execline /// Farmenwagen: Malone 2.5 tune, Darkside & Rawtek Delete

    1992 80 quattro 20v /// Eventual AAN'd Winter Sled

1990 Coupe quattro /// Because Racecar

Best bang for the buck would be General Exclaim UHP. I have them right now on my 17" OEM wheels and for the money they are really good.
But with the VMR 19" RS4 reps that should be delivered tomorrow I went with Sumitomo's HTR Z III. I heard good things about them.. we'll see.

No. I hate to break it to you, but we drive entry level-european vehicles, not luxury sedans. A luxury sedan is an s-class, a8 or a 7 series. Is a Ford sedan with leather/pleather and nav a luxury sedan??? I'm not trying to start a pissing contest here, I'm just trying to bring this guy down to earth because he obviously thinks he is better than others because he drives an A4.

    ^ +1

Although they start to get noisy as you put more miles on them, because of the way the tire is wrapped. It's difficult to find a better tire for the $$ though, IMO.

Also, with the UHPs... I would be careful rolling on 19's. They're known to have softer sidewalls and that can translate into a potentially bent rim!

If you are looking for a great quality tire that is super sticky i would go with:

    Bridgestone RE01-R
    Toyo R1R
    Falken Azenis RT615
    Dulop Direzza Z1 (not DZ101)

Demea, like MJ said..."you better cool it down"

LOL, I agree with you. If it wasn't a "luxury" car than we would all be driving Jettas. There is a luxury element to all audi cars and that is why there is an appeal to them.

I would classify A8's, 7 series, S-Classes into high-end full-size sedan luxury cars. The A4's are mid-size luxury sedans. Maybe not high-end luxury, but much more luxurious than your Honda or Toyota.

    A luxury sedan is an s-class, a8 or a 7 series.
The A8, 7 series, S-Class...they are all flagships for their respective companies. I agree they are all very luxurious and you cant get much better than these! Does that mean the A6 or 5 series isn't a luxury sedan, then?

Big difference from the A4's, 3 series, etc. I agree there too.

Doesn't mean that the A4's, 3 series, etc. are any less a luxury car makers offering for their respective class, though.
Not many people are going to stop to see who is getting out of a stock A4 in front of a restaurant (unless it's sick looking).
But thats just Audi. A8's, as nice as they are @ 80K, typically fly under the radar compared to the "look at me" S-Class and 7 Series.

Is a Ford sedan with leather/pleather and nav a luxury sedan???
I wouldn't consider a Ford with Leather and Nav a luxury car, either like the dude tried to point out in the reply to my original post...mainly because Ford inst a Luxury car manufacturer!
    Duh!

I also wouldn't consider a Passat or Maxima a luxury car either, but I would consider an A4 or M35 luxury because they are made by the LUXURY car division of the parent company.

Problem is in the A4's class, especially the B6 which is now aging and selling for 10-15K range, is the car is less expensive new, depreciates faster and is snapped up quicker on the resale market by (most) guys who immediately start modding them.

I agree 100 percent. I've had mine for about 15k and they are very very good tires with a lot of grip left. I will be buying another set when these where out. I got them for about 150. each but I think they've went down even more iirc.

The Nitto 555s I had sucked. That turned me off to all Nittos. I think they were about 210 each from Discount Tire ( this is when they very first came out, I have no idea if they even make those tires anymore, I hope not). Monumental rip-off. Shit tires. They wore out quickly and the grip was awful after like, the first 10k miles. I was spinning my wheels all the damn time and I don't launch lol.

So, you searched me by user name and read all my posts. And found that they're filled with "haterade." Okay. Keep guessing, as you put it.

    Nice post to contribute something.

And to chrissurfr, perhaps calling the A4 a premium luxury sedan was a stretch, but they're definitely more luxurious than a Buick or Camry. And as far as your pot shot at my 17s, I take my car camping and snowboarding regularly. So why the eff would I roll around dropped on 19s? As they say, the more you know...

If you guys don't like my opinions, fine but keep the gripes on topic. At least I contributed my experience. Have YOU driven about 20 different tyre types as hard as possible? I have.

Re: Good Tires for 19'' VMR Reps

As classified by Edmunds, the A4 is an entry-level luxury sedan. The 1 series and A3 are hatchbacks or compact cars. I hope this community isn't getting full of themselves. I saw this happen on the BMW forums a few years ago when 3 series prices started to drop. Lot's of people bought used 3 series' and thought they were better than others because they could afford a ballin' Bimmer, when in actuality, the prices had just dropped to the point that anyone with a few bucks could afford a used BMW. This is in no way targeting Tactic12, but I have seen it on the boards lately in a few different posts and threads by relatively new members. (Yes, I know I'm relatively new too.) B6 A4s are cheap enough that most people looking at buying a new car could find a used or even CPO'd A4 for what a brand new Ford Escort (Or whatever other piece of crap they currently make) would go for. Oh well, that's what happens when your car starts to get old.

And to be back on topic, I currently run General Exclaim UHPs on my 18" ABT SP0s, and I like them a lot. They grip pretty damn good, and handle damp/mildly wet roads nicely, though I will be getting winter tires and wheels too. They can make a slight noise when traveling over certain types of pavement, but nothing really noticeable. For the money (In my case, $500 shipped for the set), they are a great deal.

    Nice.

Anyways, tirerack.com is certainly your best bet. But if you don't mind a half hour on the phone get a quote and call around to local shops to see if you can get a lower price. You'll be able to bargain down either tirerack or the local vendor.

    I'd recommend:

    - Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position
    - or Potenza RE01R

    - General Exclaim UHP

    - Falken FK452

There is way too much to type in response that others have already 'treaded' on... get it? Man my luxury wagon is so luxurious it destroys my uncles Maybach. Would that be considered a luxury sedan? I mean, compared to your a4? Your whole "At least I contributed my experience. Have YOU driven about 20 different tyre types as hard as possible? I have" is awesome and all and shows that you have muscles and are a harder driver but its the back handedness of the contribution i think others are a little bummed out on. So, thanks for helping our new friend out with his tire selection with your wealth of knowledge and "hard driving" experience.

Sandspeed is correct on the 'price drop effect' and the Bimmer forums imo; i have seen a ton of this going on and now we have it here! YEAY!!!!
