    maintenance questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
hi i dont own an audi, but ive been looking alot into buying a b6 audi a4 1.8t, and i was wondering is there alot more maintenance because of having a turbo, i want to make it not like extremely fast but pretty quick (i love the adrenline) but i wanted to get it in the FWD automatic w/tiptronic.im tired of stickshifts. But i was wondering will things start to break if i have the automatic.

For the mods i was jus planning on getting the APR 1+ chip, KO4 turbo upgrade, tt225 injectors, and like full exhaust, and FMIC.

Will the car still work fine with these mods, or will i be looking for trouble?

    thanks for your help.

    Re: maintenance questions

Might blow a coilpack here and there, other than that I would say it should be fine. Why not get quattro?

Not possbile. Front Trac equals MultiTronic. TipTronic only comes with the Quattro. And the automatic doesn't come with tiptronic, it is tiptronic.

Coil packs are part of the ignition. Instead of a distributor, with a cap and wires, you have coil packs. Same function, different design.

No, if her car is FWD, she has MultiTronic. It is a CVT transmission, "6 speed" on the B6. TipTronic is a "5 speed" and only comes with Quattro.

    Re: maintenance questions

just don't buy a tiptronic if you want the adrenaline. you are contraditory with yourself. you want power and feel but you are tired of a standard.
I know how you feel, you will miss stick shift a lot if you buy a automatic. go out and rent a auto car like Audi or BMW for 2 weeks and you will want to get back with a stick shift.
buy a 6spd a4 1.8T Q and then we will talk about mods!

You probably don't want to get into this manual/auto conversation.. get what you like or want, most here are going to say get a manual including me.. but to each is own. Just be aware of the fact that you are buying a fine german automobile and everything costs more, labor and parts.. than an american or japanese car..things break

Universally, Manual trannies are more reliable and have less maintenance. Outside of the clutch, most manual transmissions will last the lifetime of the car, outside that of brutal, consistent hard launches and drag racing or just simply driver errors. Whether you buy Japanese, American or German, etc. Things will break. My friend's son, has a Honda civic and has gone through 2 engines and 2 manual transmissions in the two years he's owned it. In a ironic way, thank goodness he recently totalled it. Some people aren't meant to own cars...LOL

Quattro is all wheel drive. You get the security that goes with four wheels driving vs two. You also get the drawbacks, more weight, and slower launches.

You want an automatic because of that, not TipTronic, you keep confusing the terms. You are getting too hung up on the TipTronic term.

Just so we are all clear on the different available transmissions:

    1. Manual 5 Speed
    2. Manual 6 speed
    3. 5-Speed Automatic
    4. 5-speed CVT Multironic or "tiptronic"

No, you "want" a Automatic, Quattro A4. If it is Quattro, that means your transmission is the TipTronic "5 speed". If you just want an Automatic A4, then your transmission is the MultiTronic "6 speed". Quattro is Quattro, and Tip is Tip. There is no such thing as TipTronic Quattro. The TipTronic has absolutely no bearing on the Quattro. If someone has the 6 speed manual, they don't have a different kind of AWD over someone with the automatic. Make sense?

Like on my friends mom FWD with CVT she has shifts on the steering wheel.
Does the quattro come with shifts on the steering wheel?

    Negative.

5-Speed Automatic = TipTronic = You have Quattro
6-Speed Automatic = MultiTronic = You have Front Trac

Yes, if you get the CVT. But since you want a AWD, then get the Quattro CVT...done. They are two different options. One is the AWD option and the other is the transmission option.

    Bottom line:

CVT Quattro, 1.8T. Okay let's all get on with another thread...
