Question for those with Ferodo DS2500s

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Im due for new pads... probably down to either HPS or DS2500s.. not worried about the $75 price difference or the lack of a sensor, i dont care either way. it looks easy to loop if i get the ferodos

i have had my ECS slotted/drilled rotors for about 30k but they dont look bad so ill probably just throw on new pads... otherwise i might get some slotted only from Adam

i drive my car on the weekends and a little during the week and like to drive fast/brake hard, my current hawk ceramics suck pretty much but they are very low on dust..

i talked to [email protected] and he advised that the ferodos would be MUCH higher performing but dustier as well... so i do want the best performing pads but i dont want to have to clean my rims every time i drive the car like i had to with OEM pads (especially those rears)

so how bad is the dust and how do they perform?

awesome when hot but still very good when cold. they dust a bit, but about the same as OEM, or slightly more (on my slotted rotors).

I get very little brake dust with mine.....I've used other pads that are much worse.

Ive got them F+R, they are a bit dusty but nothing ridiculous. As for stopping power, there excellent but that might also be due to the Alcon's squeezing down on them

could be where all your dust is coming from too

i think im going to try the ferodos... if they are too dusty, ill get the HPS... i just dont want the rears full of dust after 1.5 hours like with OEM pads

they're nothing like the rear OEMs. I meant they dust similarly to OEM fronts, which on my car were much cleaner than the rears. I also have Brembo 355s on front, so that might contribute a little as well. For rears I use good old Bobcats (B6 S4 rears) which we all know make almost zero dust.

Re: Question for those with Ferodo DS2500s

IIRC, ceramics maintain bite throughout due to materials, the bite just isn't as good as something that will dust a bit. I've never tried a ceramic so I'm talking out my ars but did you try the Hawk HPS at any point? I have seriously low dust versus OEM.

Anyway, it's either HPS or Ferodo DS2500 IMHO.

12/23/09 - My car has been phenomenal to me. Runs strong. Don't think I'm ever going to sell it. Rather throw $7k into it for a refresh than buy a new A4 that has no dipstick.

    9/22/13 - 146k+ & running strong w/a new TB, water pump, etc.

they are about the same dust level as stock. not horrible. but i do have anthracite wheels to help hide the dust some.

Re: Question for those with Ferodo DS2500s

I've had Axxis Ultimates, Carbotech Bobcats, and Ferodo DS2500s for my Stoptech BBK. Of the 3, the Bobcats dusted the least. Ferodo dusted a little more than OEM. Axxis was not much better than OEM.

For inital bite and hot use, Ferodos are the best even when cold. The Carbotechs were good when hot, but were very poor on initial bite when cold. Axxis was slightly better than OEM.

If I had the choice, I would run the Ferodo DS2500 pads for both the front and rear brakes. Unfortunately, Ferodo doesn't offer the DS2500 for B6 S4 rear brakes. Therefore, I'm running the Ferodos up front and Carbotech Bobcats in the back. This has been a great combination for the setup on my car.

I run the exact same setup as Shawn (alcons + ferodos) and am very happy with them. Dust is there, but it's an excuse to wash the car.
