    Considering purchasing a 2002 S6 avant

Can you guys share your thoughts on any reliability issues I should keep in mind? The cars I am looking at have roughly around 60k miles - so no warranty is included from the dealership. I am from the A4 family and have decided to move up for a bigger car. I would be interested in suggestions of what to look for and common issues that arise around the 60k miles mark. Any input would be appreciated. thanks

man like 2 threads a week about what potential problems to look for.

The 4.2 is a pretty rock solid motor. Overall the car is still an Audi. You own one now, so you should understand the common Audi issues. The TB should probably be done soon. Everybody will say take its to a indy Audi mechanic blah blah blah...

    two words: oil leaks
and the timing belt, cv boots, control arms, and some stuff i forget.
In researching an oil leak on my 2.8, I saw a lot of talk about the 4.2 oil cooler being a problem. Look it up on the Audiworld A6 C5 forum.

Thanks guys - I appreciate the responses. I was jsut wondering if there was something major that I needed to be aware of like B5 S4 issues. Sounds like its a solid motor. I cant wait to get into one!

I just got mine back from its second ever trip to the shop, not including the time I backed the S4 into it, but I don't want to talk about that.
It went in for 1 xenon, 1 CV boot, an oil change and diagnosis of a repeat CEL. The CEL is emissions-related, and is either a gas cap, bad gas or something simple that we're overlooking.
Other than that, look for shitty mileage, made worse by a really really touchy gas pedal. I get ~17mpg in mine.
Don't expect a whole lot out of the NAV system. It works, but it's kind of hard to use and much less capable than what you might have in your phone.

Other than that, I can't say anything bad about the car. I absolutely love mine.

That will not happen, unless you go to work down hill both directions. LOL!!! I have a 2002 S6, and love the car, and it is my 5th Audi, but be prepared to put out a bengamin at fill up, and get about 16-18 MPG at best. I love the room, and the interior trim is great. I hardly drive the S4 anymore, but do on occassion when she is low on gas.

You will love the car, and it's rareity puts it over the top.

    Good Luck

its just a normal V8 , you shouldn't have to many problems with that.
