HFC's are obnoxiously expensive for our cars! Has anyone ever bought a test pipe and spliced a universal HFC cat into it?

You can get a test pipe for $125, and a good universal HFC for about $300-400. Plus $100 to have a muffler shop weld it in. Even cheaper if you went with a used test pipe off of one of the forums.

^^so instead u just use a testpipe and have twice the power and ur done! i'd rather bribe the guy at the smog shop with $10 than make a makeshift HFC/TP thingy!

$250 for a HFC. If you think about it, that's worth it considering you won't have to have a test pipe removed and reinstalled every year for inspection. Just something to think about.

12/23/09 - My car has been phenomenal to me. Runs strong. Don't think I'm ever going to sell it. Rather throw $7k into it for a refresh than buy a new A4 that has no dipstick.
    12/5/10 - 100k miles & counting!
    9/22/13 - 146k+ & running strong w/a new TB, water pump, etc.

    Re: HFC

no need to buy a test pipe. buy two flanges, a universal cat for about 50 bucks, a foot or two of straight pipe and a 180 degree bend. oh yea, and 3 bungs, incase ou want to add a wideband later
