Can I use any other gas than prem. in my b7 a4?

I ran mid grade for a while but after a couple of months my car started to feel sluggish so i started to put premium back in and it fixed it

First of all gas prices are droping, secondly the price difference would only amount to around a dollar or so total savings.

i doubt you would do much damage, but your car most likely won't perform like you're used to. don't risk it!

This comes up quite a bit. Lower octane, lower performance and gas mileage.

The difference in price is $0.30/gal ? x 16 gallons? We're not talking about a lot of money here.

it won't do any damage at all. with modern cars the ecu cuts back on the timing to avoid detonation with lower octane fuels, a slight loss of performance is the only result.

of course not. this will kill the engine. since this is turbo engine. The compress rate is high than regular engine. If you use low grade gas the gas will light up itself before it the piston reach ignition point. It will damage piston and cylinder head. Also it will low the performance. One more thing is it will low the gas mileage too. at the end you use more gas and it would save you any. Also you need spend more money to fix engine. 100% no.

uh, we do have pay tax. it's built right into the price of the gas, minues any gouging that may be included by one of our finer non-american station owners.

It would be a mistake to use anything else than premium because with an engine such as ours that has such a high compression ratio, knocking could be more catastrophic and led to engine problems that would cost far more than the small amount of money you save at the pump.

Hell, I traded in my 10 mpg truck for the Audi as a Godsend in saving gas money.

That being said, I put in 91 or 93 octane in.

The only thing that pisses me off is that until two years ago, 93 octane was always 20 cents higher than 87 regular octane. No matter what.

Then this whole gas price hike started and now 93 is sometimes 35 cents more than regular. WTH? How come all of the sudden for the first time in 40 something years did it cost more to produce 6 octane levels?
