100 degree heat and wondering about which oil to use

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I live in Texas where the last week or so we have been getting 100+ degree heat and I am due for an oil change, I have been using Mobil1 0w-40 and don't have a clue if should keep using it in this weather. Others I have seen been using 5w-40 or 5w-30.

Can anyone give me some insight on what I should do.
    Thanks

Don't worry about the first number in the oil weight where you live. Worry about the second number. I would not use 30 weight oil in 100deg high humidty Texas weather. Use 0W40 or 5W40. Some people can get away with using 30 weight in the heat but they are usually the people that know everything going on with their car like Mike Hood.

Depends on your driving habbits and what your oil temps look like while driving in 100 deg temps. If your oil temps tend to be around 225 most of the time you will want to run 40, if your well under that most of the time you can get away with 30. Just remember that 30 will heat up quicker then 40.

If your using Mobil 1 I would most likely suggest staying with the 5w40 if it gets cold at night, if not you can use the 10w40.
