2.7 A6 First Oil Change

I recently purchased my 2004 2.7T Audi A6. I am going to need my first oil change in the next month. What oil do other 2.7T drivers use, and recommend? I use to, use Castrol GTX in my other vehicles, and wanted to know what choices are better. Thanks for the input. I trust other drivers over the stealership.

You really want to use a synthetic oil. GTX is a conventional oil.

Audi recommends to use at least a 0W30 in your motor. If you are in a jam, 5W30 is acceptable. The point of 0W30 is that it is an energy conserving oil and will help save you on gas. It also has a lower freeze point than 5W30.

Here is the most recent list of oils that Audi approves of on their motors:

I use Mobil1 0W40 since it is the 0 weight for gas saving and low freeze point but, it also can stay viscous at high temps with the turbos and the summer heat. 0W30 will start to get watery once temps are extremely high.

Thanks for the list Daft, and m-avant. What brands do others prefer? I think I am going to go with Mobil 1 0w40.
