Color temp recommendations for Xenon bulbs????

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have oem bulbs in my car currently, but they definitely look very yellow. Especially after I got the Hoen xenon match fog bulbs. The Hoen's are more of a cool white or very light blue..

Do you think 5100k or 6000k would be the way to go? What are others running, and if you did switch out, how much did you pay/where did you get them?

Well, technically a "pure white" color would allow for the most visibility at night time. So it's really what you want in terms of visibility vs. something that just looks the part.

lawfully i think 4300k is the limit... but you can safely go up to 6000k and get that blue look. don't do anything above that unless you want to get a matching spoiler with it...

I perceived less light output with 6000K's vs. 4500K stock. Just didn't seem worth it for the blue color.

due to the frosted lense featured on the projectors, there is almost no color on the cut-off line, which is why i am buying 3" clear lenses and swapping them in, i will achieve a deep blue-purple band of color on the edge of the beam, and to oncoming drivers, my lights will flicker between blue/purple, and the yellowish-white, this way ill keep the brightness of the factory color temp, and still get the exotic colors.

i would never suggest getting higher temp bulbs, they are cheaply made and even 6000k is hundres of lumens less of light.

but if you wanna be a ricer get 12000k bulbs!

heres a pic of my cut-off line on my BMW, this was achieved using a clear lense

and heres how deep the blue was just at the edge of the beam, keep in mind the actual output color was yellowish-white like yours

6000K on the left and 3000K (yellow) on the right.

    5300K:

I went with 6000K at first. The color was nice but the light output was not to my liking so I went with 5300K.

The bulbs were McCulloch D1C (Hybrid between D1S and D1R). They were about $180/pair which can be found on Ebay.

However, the 5300K and 3000K were custom made for me. You can email my guy, Jack and see if he has any left.

Ok thanks. I though D1R was designed for reflector housings.
What is the hybrid all about?

Re: Color temp recommendations for Xenon bulbs????

Where are you purchasing the 3" clear lenses and how are you swapping them? I always loved the cut-off colors of BMWs and older Audis (B5, B6) but the B7 seems to have a yellowish cut-off. I thought that was because we in North America have the US spec. cut-off pattern but the e-code pattern in Europe is what older Audis had in North America which flickered blue/purple.

The pattern on a US spec projector looks like this

    _____|¯¯¯¯¯¯ _____|¯¯¯¯¯¯

and the e-code looks like this

    _____/¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ _____/¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

    Correct me if I’m wrong.

Re: Color temp recommendations for Xenon bulbs????

The Hybrid is nothing special really. It just means that you can use the D1C bulb for D1S and D1R applications.
