Resurecting a couple free features/mods

Was reading through the B6 Easter egg thread and found a couple interesting topics. Certainly a repost, but meant for the guys that haven't done this yet and are bored.

1. Paper clip mod for the front headrests. Just did this a couple minutes ago and it is a nice change. I always wondered why the front headrests never went all the way down, but now they are "slammed".

How to... Simply pull each of the front headrests out. Place 1 paper clip in each seat top (female hole that accepts the metal headrest pole). Only place a paper clip in the unadjustable hole on each seat. This lets you push the headrest all the way down without catching on the notch in the metal pole part of the headrest. Good luck!

2. Controlling the temperature for passenger and driver at the same time.

How to...Set both sides to the same temp and simply hold down the driver side auto button for a few seconds and you are done. Sooo much better!

Another cool feature that I found out about was the 1 touch venting for the sunroof. Just tap the sunroof control and it vents open all the way. I used to just hold it for a few seconds.

Also the parking light control (left or right independently) with key out and turn signal placed in either left or right position. Kind of worthless, but still interesting.

You guys know of any other cool features?

I didn't know about the climate control thing until back in October. It really is very convenient!

You don't need to set both sides to the same climate. Just hold down the driver side and the passenger will change on it's own, then they are linked.

Other things i found out that I didn't know:

THere are grocery bag holders on the top of the trunk.
You can customize what menu items appear in your HUD. Press the reset button on the stalk to cycle to the menu. It will go to computer 1, then 2, then the custom settings.

you can also turn the HUD off if you hold down the reset button. You can turn on the radio with the ignition key out. But I think the climate control thingy is the most useful easter egg.

Yeah, I use the "Auto" climate thing all the time, especially when my passengers set the temperature to something ridiculously high and I reject them by holding auto and setting it back where it belongs

Hold the mode buttion down for 5 secs on the steering wheel and it will lock the radio/wheel controls. your passenger wont be able to lower/higher the music or change the channel/song. Then press it again and its back to normal.

and once u put the sunroof back if you hold the dial it will be 100% recessed in the car so the entire sunrroof is open

Lol, I love seeing this and people going out to try it without having it as a built in option (myself included!). It only works for those with the right package on their car..

turn the side mirror knob by the drivers arm rest to the right mirror setting. On reverse the mirrors will lower and when you put it in drive the mirror will revert back to its normal position. Oh and like GEkideo said, make sure you have that option!

Do you know which package it is, and if I did have it would in work with both a manual and an auto tranny? Either way I don't think I have it, because I usually have the mirror knob on passenger mirror anyway, and I've never seen the mirrors move. Thought maybe there was some trick to turning this feature on.

definitely going to have to try the climate control. i discovered the mirror feature completely by accident. imagine adjusting the mirror and then sticking the car in reverse and hearing a strange noise (the motor in the mirror) and not knowing where the heck the sound was coming from. I swear i searched for a good 10 minutes before I figured out what was going on. pretty funny.

what do you mean by mode? you mean the menu button instead?

something i just recently learned what and awesome look from the inside.

Yeah it definitely looks a lot better when it's fully open. Just make sure you have a window open or you'll get a WOOO WOOO WOOO when you hit speed and it's not too pleasing to the ears. I'm assuming that is why the sunroof only opens 3/4 of the way... to break up the air so you don't blow your ears.

That temperature control one rules! I like how it keeps them in sync with the drivers' side until someone changes the passenger side, and then you can just hit Auto and override it again!

anywho, i believe it's standard on all a4s. reach onto the front of your seat where most cars have the lever to move the seat front to back. should be a panel with a lever. pull forward on the lever. enjoy the chubby...er...cubby goodness.

Ain't a sunshade foo, it's for when you use the interior lights at night. Reflects more light into the cabin, and doesn't distract other drivers.

It does have a small potential to block the sun though
