I installed the new south gauge today and I followed a mixture of AWE and PodI instructions.

    Works great...

So I head outside now that tis dark to adjust the color n the gauge and the numbers are not lit but the indicator needle is...

I open my door to shed some light and what do you know the numbers light up...

I shut the door and they dimm out with the interior lights???

I hoowed the power lead to the Gray / Blue wires

if you are holding your headlight switch correctly they would be on the top left of the connector...???

    Please help

    Thanks

it sounds like you tapped into the wrong wire. I can't remember if there was a blue wire with gray stripe and gray wire with blue stripe, but that'd be my guess. You probably mixed those wires up and tapped the wrong one. If you have a multi meter, test a few wires to find out which one turns on and off with the light switch.

Yeah, the wire is gray w/ a blue stripe. But I think you used the right one, in the upper left corner.

Ok... I was driving home from work today when I noticed that the gauge light was on with the headlights, is there some sort of light sensor that turns off lights when it is dark in our cars??

    please help.

Re: New South Gauge issue, please help!!!

I'm a little confused with your description. I have a gauge installed in mine which stays blacked out until I turn my headlights on. It sounds to me like you may have tapped the power wire from the gauge into a dimmer wire behind the console somehow. There may be more than one wire that you may confused with or just got blue/gray combination wrong. Either way, if your gauge turns on with your headlights and stays on as while your headlight switch is in the on position or parking light position then you've done the install correctly.

    Hope this helps.

Yeah Im going to pull the dash today and multimeter the wires so I can fix this.

Yeah the gauge light turns on if I tunr my headlight switch on in the day but at night it does not turn on with the headlight switch, though the needle stays lit????

Then if I open my door or switch on the interior light it turns on??

I am going to redo the ground and ower today I think.

    Ill repot back

tried a new ground spot, if this doesnt work I'm patching into the vent light wire in the drivers side.

    We will see

Re: New South Gauge issue, please help!!!

I think your problem is very simple. I honestly believe you may have just tapped the wrong wire or two. Somehow you've tapped the wire that is a dimmer wire of some shape and dims out the interior lights. I don't think a different ground will help but if you decide to ground it to a different part then make sure you scrape away any paint on that part so that it shows bare metal if you go with a chassis ground. Otherwise, I think its an honest mix-up of your wires. Follow the podi instructions as that one worked for me just fine. I can't remember if my gauge had a dimmer wire but if it did I'm positive I didn't hook it up to anything since I like my gauges super bright.

Re: New South Gauge issue, please help!!!

I figured it out with my meter and yes I did tap a dimmmer wire. The wire I tapped was the one I was supposed to but it foes from 14 volts (daylight), to 7 volts(night) and tha led doesnot like that low voltage, I retapped another wire on the headlight switch (grey) that is 14v when headlights/parking lights/ or auto is on.

    LOOKS AWESOME NOW!!!!

    Thanks for the help everyone.

P.S. this is what happends when your car is TOO smart and dims its own light based on a light intencity meter in the speedo!!!

    Fucking smart car.
