    Re: A little teaser

Please do a detailed work up on this if you can.

You plan on making a fiberglass enclosor?

How would you get signal from the existing stereo? Line level converter?

    Re: A little teaser

That's exactly what I wanted to do, but according to some expert installers, it's a waste of money, unless you'll build a custom fiberglass enclosure which is very costly. On top of that the 6 inch sub is nothing extraordinary, though I am interested to see the progress and the final outcome.

    Re: A little teaser

I'll take as many pics as I can. As it is now, there is too much volume for the JL 8W6. I chose this sub since its pretty shallow with some decent power (300rms). Yes I will be adding some amps and speakers as well. Two amps will be mounted in the spare wheel well. I have a JL 250/1 and a alpine 4 channel unit. When I get a matching JL 4 channel amp I'll make a nice false floor.

I'm just using the stock woofer box as a base to make the new enclosure. As it sits now it appears that there is too much volume. Its gonna get hacked up a bit. I have the sub placed where I want it. I just need to do some cutting and making up some templates for the wooden front base to mount the sub. Then fiberglass the whole thing to reinforce it. I might be a little cleaner to start fresh and mold my own box from scratch but I would like to try this to see how it goes. Plus I get to use the stock mounting points and I can do most of the work out of the car.

    Re: A little teaser

did you pull that out last night. I guess there is not enough room to fit it in stock location. When I went home I was thinking all about that w6 and I was thinking they never made a 8" in the w6 but its the older one so idk how you found on of thoes but good luck. How did you get out that side panel?

    Re: A little teaser

Its a discontinued sub. A bit hard to find but you can pick them up for under $150-$170

The w7 is easy to find though. The side panel is held in by a ton of clips. Remove the flip up carpet bu taking the screws in the hooks near the seats. Then pull up the back latch trim. Then remove the screw where the cover hooks into. Then start yanking.

    Re: A little teaser

    how cheap is cheap?

Also did some more work tonight. But too dark for pics on my phone. I made the front panel with the cut out and glassed it into the rest of the stock box. Its looking ok. I got lazy on the wood work and it shows. I also should have done more with wood cause glassing tight corners doesn't really have good results. Oh well. most of it is hidden anyways and its gonna get wrapped in suede. I still have to figure out the pin-outs on the stock connector that went to the stock sub amp. Maybe i'll do it at work when I can use an O-scope.

    Re: A little teaser

    whooops...i severely miscalculated.

I was gonna just mold in a ring....

It didn't look right so I decided to cut out a panel

put a layer of glass on and test fit....uugghh...its not centered. I'm making a trim piece anyways to hide the gaps and stuff anyways.

i'm just gonna rework the hole to center it up more. I'm worried about space behind it though. I don't wanna bring my sub outwards anymore though. We'll see...

Looks good Poopie, that's one way to get rid of Avant rattles, or add to them. Not really sure what you are going to end up with? More clean base or more rattles. Looks good...

    Re: A little teaser

I made some good progress the other night. Finished up the box pretty much. not pretty at all since there were so many angles. I used some thing fiberglass sheets to form the back side since i didn't want to mold back there. Its somewhat decent. I'm gonna put a few more layers of glass down to strengthen it up.

Does anyone know the what the wiring to the sub looks like? I can't figure out which are the low level inputs to the stock amp. I hooked up the oscope and i can't get a defined answer.

    Re: A little teaser

Might need you to make me something depending on what yours comes out to be like. I was looking around at seeing if I cant get a decent 6.5" sub to fit in the stock location with decent sound so I don't have to take up that space but if not im going the 8" route. as far as wiring goes I think it should be the same as any other sub if its not a dual voice coil.
