Synthetic power steering fluid....and other maintenace issue?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I went to do a routine fluid check on my S and noticed:

    * coolant fluid seems have exploded or spewed all over driver side portion of engine (water marks all over coolant tank, and engine parts) and was below minimum (i had just changed it two weeks ago)

    * oil needs to be topped

    * G 00200 hydraulic mineral oil is low

I topped off coolant with mixture of water and G12, topped off oil.
Now I'm concerned about the power steering fluid. Its 7pm and I have no idea where to buy Pentosin G 00200 hyd mineral fluid. Will it hurt if I substitute syntheic power steering fluid instead?

Also...what are the reasons as to why my coolant fluid spewed all over the place?

I would not put any PAS fluid into a B5, other than the specified type.

Other fluids will attack your seals in pump and rack, not good.

Don't want to qoute it but i believe i was told the mineral oil used for the power steering was the same as the mineral clutch fluid. Off rte 7, Fairfax autoparts should have it. here's a pic, again i could be wrong so double check.

Sorry.....the CHF 11S is what you should be using. I confused the two, Affinitive is right don't mix the two.

    Use the CHF 11S.

    WHOA

DO NOT ADD THE CHF 7.1 FLUID

Your car will take the newer SYNTHETIC CHF 11S Fluid which comes in a green container. the 7.1 is not synthetic, just plain jane mineral. If need be you could also add CHF 202. 202 and 11S are compatible for mixing. 7.1 will cause more problems in the long run. mixing percautions are also printed on the containers.
And most defintely do not add regular ATF or generic power steering fluid.

if not just do what I did and put that crap fluid in and then wait until your rack is spewing fluid all over your wheel wells and then take 10 hours and 300 or more dollars on replacing the Rack and Pinion...

Re: Synthetic power steering fluid....and other maintenace issue?

I have a maintenace question...how do you know when you need to change your differential fluid? Is there a warning light or anything? My output shaft seal is leaking and I don't want it to run dry before I replace it.

there's no warning light for the diffy fluid as far as I know. You can check the fluid by removing the filler cap and sticking your finger in there to try and feel the fluid level. It should be right at the filler hole.
