Can Jump-starting a dead battery take some life out of mine??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I had to jump a car at work yesterday, a brand new Lexus hybrid L6 whatever the hell it was. The long car. ANYWAYS. I've noticed since I jumped it my car takes a second longer like the crank is longer to turn the engine over. Could I of effed up my battery jumping his dead battery?

    I'd say it's highly unlikely.

Your alternator should bring your battery back to a healthy level if his car took a toll on it after some driving.

If not, perhaps your own battery is getting old or you could confirm your volt gauge is in the 12V area when turned off (1-2 keyturns forward) and 13.8-14.2V-ish when running to triple-check alternator.

But yeah, i'd say you should be fine unless the Lexus uses some special/non-12V battery etc.

A little higher than 12V without the car started is fine, although if it really is 13-14V when turned off that seems a little high to me.

Maybe double-check the number/gauge...or drive some and see if everything balances out.

    I wouldn't be too worried.

its perfectly fine, mine sits at 14, always has and never had an issue, mike, when jumping a car you will lose a bit of power, then your alternator will rejuice it no problem when your car is running it should come back to the 13-14 whre it sits right in the middle of the cluster..mike your paranoid like always freakin rich greenwich kids lol

Re: Can Jump-starting a dead battery take some life out of mine??

lol... well i think what the problem was that this isnt any type of car i jumped... the battery itself on the Lexus Hybrid was a normal looking battery but then on the positive terminal there was a huge thing on it with a fuse in it and i think that ran the hybrid batteries as well... so the car pulled a lot from mine to start the hybrid up i think thats what the problem was

I don'y get why my car has no problems with this(RADIO CODE) i've changed my battery or left the car battery disconnected for days and never had an issue with the radio.

Unless the gauge is quickly sweeping back and forth or something, that's exactly where it should be when the car is off.

Never hurts to replace an old battery and everything, in fact i'd advise it after 4-5 years as maintenance, but I don't think you "killed" your battery or anything from jumping this guy.
