What's the cost to strip and repaint C5 4.2 trunk lid, rear bumper?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Car is a 2001 A6 4.2Q. Brilliant Black.

Spider webs on the trunk lid, scrapes on the lower bumper.

Anyone have any ideas as to the approximate cost to have the rear decklid stripped to the metal and repainted?

Also, the rear bumper refinished as well?

Just trying to gauge the damage to the wallet.

    Thanks.

Well, it's all relative to the party doing the work in terms of labor rates.

You figure maybe a 2-3hr job to remove, prep, paint and install the bumper.

Figure anywhere from 600 to 900 depending on the quality of the work, I'm sure you can get it done for $250 as well, but what kind of work will it be?

    More good news.

    Bank2 Cat hard failure.
Evap Purge Valve Regulator needs replacement.
Tie-rods and upper right control arm needs replacement.

    Suggestions? Approximate costs?

Is it time to retire the beast?

Re: What's the cost to strip and repaint C5 4.2 trunk lid, rear bumper?

I am presently having the hood, front/rear bumper refinished, replace driver's side fender replaced and misc add ons painted...price to be determined. But I was quoted about $800 for the job minus the misc painted pieces. Normally to refinish the bumpers would be $300 your decklid about $400 - $500. What sucks is the computer program these guys are using to determine hours for the job for removal, prep, paint and installation, cost of paint and shop fees. Look for a reputable mom and pop that does good work and attention to detail. "Cars are like women, they never know when to stay out of your wallet!"

Who are you using to get your work done?

    How reputable are they?

I'm getting it appraised at Stoddard in Willoughby, so yeah it's a dealership, but I'm kind of limited here in terms of good indy shops in the Cleveland area.

    Any suggestions?

That program sux balls man. Everybody quotes stupid prices because some retard says shit takes longer than it does. Sorry it just brought up memories of me getting quoted $600 for a rear wheel bearing. I ended up doing it myself for $96.

Hey lodit I have a 2000 4.2 and my CAT on Bank 1 just failed. My mechanic in NY said he could get me one for $700. That does not include install. Carson at Riverside Audi in NJ can get you and OEM CAT for $850. Becareful my 4.2 was equipped with a CAT from Cali. which means a lower emissions. I will let you know what it coast me when the job is done.

Did you check out Zumbach on the West Side. Those guys are knowledgeable and closer to home. Give them a call, you never know.

I don't have their number but they are on the west side highway just before the ramp passing Trump Towers. If I can remember its on 54st, it will be on your right heading north. They also deal saabs and rovers. Call information for Zumbach Motors.

Re: What's the cost to strip and repaint C5 4.2 trunk lid, rear bumper?

    Ok.
    Quick update from the dealership.

It's gonna cost me $631.95 all in to repair and refinish the rear bumper, i have parktronic if that makes a difference. I told them to go for it, and paint the bumper as well, since that repair is covered by a third party.

It's gonna cost me $700 to strip and repaint/refinish the trunk lid, I have the gps button on the trunk and they're gonna fix a little dent in the trunk that's been bugging me. Not that noticeable, but of course I can see it and that's what matters. lol...i told them to go for it on this, since the bumper repair is free to me, I'm looking at $700 to fix both bumper and trunk lid...not a bad deal considering.

The evap purg valve regulator is gonna cost me $263 plus tax to replace. Anybody know what this really costs to fix?

They said the cat doesn't need to be replaced just yet unless I have to run an emissions test...the fault code is just an efficiency issue, not a clogging or no airflow issue. Thank goodness for that. So, the dealership isn't out to take all my money, just yet.

Suspension-wise, they said the right front upper control arm needs replacement, they want $340 for it, I said no thanks. I'll bring it to an indy suspension shop and have them look at it.

If the front suspension needs replacing, then I'll buy the parts from performance-cafe or whatever and have the indy shop replace it.

Just wondering, how often do the control arms and tie rods need to be replaced? I just had it done in october 2006, and got roughly 30k out of it. Any thoughts?
