Vinyled up my door blades and rear [new pics!]

Cross posting this from the vortex. it's so dead there....

after reading about someone who covered their chrome with black ebay vinyl, i decided to get the euro B6 S4 door blades that I always wanted by making them myself.

So I bought 6' of matte black vinyl from ebay and went at it.
I've never ever applied automotive vinyl before, but I have faint images in my memory of people doing it with a heat gun and a creditcard type squeegee...

Anyway, I experimented with the smallest pieces first and moved my way up.
Tip #1: keep the backing on as long as you can through the process.

The door blades come off really easy:

    2 philips head screws each:

    they slide right out

    valance pops right out also

just remove the two T-20 screws underneath first

make sure you have enough vinyl

first test fit. this piece was such a hack job, there are still so many air bubbles in there.

second piece, started to get the hang of heating up the vinyl with my hair dryer.

    sides are all done! hotness.

this piece was a royal pain. in retrospect, I'd rather pay for a new valance, one with a good resale value. then again, the total cost of this project was about $50.

    better pics to come!

Re: Vinyled up my door blades and rear

Yeaaaah black vinyl. Looks pretty good and unique for the door blades but I don't think I would do it to my ride. It's also interesting that you did your valence as most people try to color match theirs. You should do your trim as well and then you'll be all set. Damn I bet that guy on Ebay is making a killing on the vinyl. It seems like a ton of people have ordered from him since I posted where I got it from. I'm going to demand at least 10% for commission!!

You might want to look elsewhere as the EBay vinyl comes in 15" wide rolls. From my experience, the vinyl shrinks a little bit with sun exposure. So if you try to lay two pieces down next to each other it might shrink and expose some paint. You can overlap the vinyl but you are going to have a little ridge where they are overlapping. It probably won't be noticeable from far, but when you get up close to the car you will see it.

unless i get the black roof rails, i think i'm gonna leave the chrome trim and grill the way it is.
