    im a former b5 owner who went to VW's and stayed a little longer than planned lol ( i mean you can make them fast and thier parts are soo cheap) but now im coming back to the rings and i am looking into a 1.8t b6

    so here are my questions
    which is better the 1.8 or the 3.0?
    does the sport package make that much of a difference?
    what should i know?

    i vote 3.0! sport package doesnt make any difference, you can always get better suspension and better wheels. but if you compare stock sport vs non sport, there is a difference, ride height and wheels.

    a lot of guys here will lure you to the 1.8T I am sure.

    1.8T or 3.0?....
    It's been debated alot.
    -3.0 has little for power modifications; it's pretty much stock, supercharged or custom. If you don't plan on mod'n it then I'd go 3.0L. Other bonus is no turbo lag and better reliability IMO.
    -1.8t has many different power level mods avaliable and can surpass the 3.0 in power. Gets better gas milage. Lower overall vehicle price and easier to find with the options you want/colors.

    Sport package?
    IMO if you want a live-able, daily driver sporty suspension the OEM one is up to the task. It handles better, has a slightly stiffer ride and is lower than the non-sport. If you want custom, show low or racetrack quality don't waste your money on the option.

    I'd go for a 04.5-05.5 B6 due to seemingly better reliability, 6-spd manual (vs 5-spd for 1.8t's), painted lowers and the ultrasport pkg option.

    I found the 3.0 to be the better option since it takes quite a few mods to get the 1.8t to equal the power of it. Chip plus injectors and exhaust should give it quite a few more horses then the 3.0 but you still have to deal with a crappier power band.
    I do miss my old 1.8t gti though, but still, in an audi a4 it just seems more appropriate to go with a non boy racer engine lol. Besides, I feel like with a S/C, intake, exhaust, and perhaps a smaller pulley, the 3.0 will have plenty of power.
    If you want an audi to make really fast, then buy an s4 or something =/
