i was told that the reason that we have to DV is because our cars have small turbos so some of the boost has to go back. true or not i'm not sure... my question is at what point or what size turbo are we able to use a BOV, i have a HKS SS BOV that would sound amazing or my car...would someone be able to clarify this for me please.

    thank you

    Re: BOV question

it isnt the size of the turbo... the stock tuning is tuned for a DV, the diverter valve takes the built up pressure and recycles it by putting it back into the system, now if you have a BOV it doesnt get "recycled" ... the problem you run into With the stock programming and a BOV is the programming is counting on the "recycled" air to be there so it anticipates it with extra fuel. now when you have a BOV the air isnt recycled so your engine ends up with more fuel than it really needs... this is why you will run rich... and therefore not optimal for the car...

    Re: BOV question

Supposedly the recirc'ed air helps minimize spool up after shifts as well.

You can run a BOV if your tune calls for it, or you're MAF-less. Since you're a facelift car, you have that option. I forget which companies offer the MAF-less tune, but it's available.

You have a MAP sensor so it's really just about programming like Djwimbo said, UNI can write that or has it.

    Re: BOV question

    what they said.. one question.

i have a HKS SS BOV that would sound amazing or my car...
what would make it sound so different from the rest of the cars that run them that sound like a squeak?

but yeah, you'll run rich if you slap it on there. You need to have your ecu tuned differently for it. DJ couple companys offer maf-less files like UNI and Chris Tapp for the 2001's+

    Re: BOV question

I realized later that it isn't just a facelift thing, it's an '01 thing. My bad, either way he's rollin an '01.

I'd go with Unitronic. I have their Stg 1+ tune, Ian(bassed) has a custom tune, and everybody I've met that has their tune is happy with it.

The SSQ BOV doesn't really sound that good until you're in "full" boost. My buddies Galant VR4 made more of the flutter sound under 18psi, and at 22+ sounded F-in amazing. Partial throttle he'd boost up to 18psi, and WOT he'd spike 26, and hold 24psi.

Go to HKS's website they explain how the valve itself works. If you're not opening the valve all the way, it won't sound right.
