    MPG. Has anyone seen this?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am sure I will be hard pressed in finding someone that believes this but....

Got 30.1MPG on the way in to work the other day. Consistently I am seeing 27MPG. I have a picture of it (digital readout) on the better half's cell phone. I will try and get it uploaded tomorrow and post.

As a point of reference, I drive I-25 Northbound from Castle Pines North. The ride seems to be mostly downhill (in a sense). I stay steady between 65 to 55MPH on the drive. On the way home I seem to lose a bit but still maintain about 22MPG. My reasoning on the MPG drop is I am now going slightly uphill (obviously) and I am averaging about 70-75MPH... in an effort to get home quicker.

Does anyone else ever see this type of MPG? Doesn't seem to bother me in the least!

Yes those numbers would all fall with in the range that I experience. My over all mostly city driving is nearly 19 mpg and generally that is brought down by the big hills here!

Re: MPG. Has anyone seen this?

I have a Tiptronic and if i am driving to work and back I could get 25-27mpg @ 65mph. This is on the NY State thruway & I-95. As long as there's no traffic and I set my cruise ill be ok. The other day I was on the palisades Parkway and you really cant speed on that roade becasue it goes from a 55mph to a 50 in some areas, plus alot of cops. I was getting 30.2mpg heading to the GW bridge. I was doing 60mph. It might say that our cars get 20mpg on the highway but in smaller letters it says higher # on the window sticker when i bought the car. I think if I remeber it was like 24mpg for individual drivers. Its also said 12mpg under the 15mpg for individual drivers.

Re: MPG. Has anyone seen this?

Back in a November thread, I got a rash of doubt from many here who see significantly lower mileage. I've never seen 30mpg (that's outstanding) but my morning commute record is 27.4mpg...I didn't even bother posting.
    Here's an excerpt from me...

Our cars are capable of decent mileage, but it's Audi's fault for making our cars so heavy, but fun to drive. I've found the very best recipe for good gas mileage is to leave early for your destination. Any time you factor in tardiness, your gas mileage suffers.

My average btwn city and highway is in the high teens. 18 - 19mpg consistent.

I would be surprised if anyone was getting much higher than this including city driving.

its funny though, my mpg went up after i installed my cat back exhaust and im hoping that i gain a couple more mpg's after the downpipes.

    but we will see.

i drove my moms eos one day last week and it got 30mpg on the freeway and 24 around town, so the s4 isnt that bad fuel wise.

Alot of people have noticed an increase due to a diiferent exhaust. Lower backpressure and increased horsepower means that the engine is running more effeciently and as a result the gas mileage gets better. The major culprit for lousy hwy mpg is the gearing and city mpg is the weight.

I did notice improved mpg which I attribute to the improved breathing enhanced by Miltek + K&N + tuning

I simply do not believe when guys claim these 24-27mpg figures. Especially at 75mph on the highway. I don't care what the little digital readout says. It ain't happening. You need to fill your tank, set the trip meter to zero and then see how many miles you go on the tank to get the ACTUAL mpg for the car. You'll be lucky to get 17-18mpg for a tank of gas.

I got 23.4mpg goin home today with a bit of stop and go due to the heavy rain. I get 30-32 with the avant. Anything 20+ for a V8 is acceptable in my book.

I average around 18mpg driving around here in hawaii... My trip home is half down hill, nice gradual downgrade, if I'm doing 80 when I crest the top of thr hill I'll see 20+mpg numbers.

So you don't believe those making the claims or the cars we are taking our info from?

I don't always get those numbers. Just on my commute. I easily get around 290-310 miles per tank (this is just before my light goes off - which says I still have about 40 miles to go).

In the 2 weeks I've owned my car, I think the highest I've seen is 20.1 MPG. Of course, I've seen 8.x more than once...and I actually managed a 0 yesterday.

yeah ... we lie because it makes us look more important and our cars are (apparently) better tuned than others ... geesh

My numbers are consistent over 15,000 miles so do the math.

so that means we should drive our cars like we stole em and beat the shit out of them every chance we get? um...............no, i pay for my car, not you, so ill drive mine the way i want to and you drive yours the way you want to.

im sure we all enjoy our cars, but there is no reason to drive the car 10/10 all the time, thats just unnecessary wear and tear on the vehicle.

Your Avatar name is a bit revealing ... jejeCLOWN ... yo ... read the posts again ... we DO drive the fuck out of our cars ... just not all the time ... prolly because you are younger and post your dad's + mom's car types you prolly also think you have to drive like Dale Jr all the time ... you are destine for handcuffs.

For me, getting 14-15 around town is neither good nor bad mpg ... it is what it is. As for a trip to Vegas where at times I was at xxx but averaged 75+ mph, to get 24 mpg means the car is pretty well tuned.

    Yes? Never mind ...

Re: MPG. Has anyone seen this?

I can get close to 24 when i go into town and 11 to 16 when coming home. It all depends on the road and your driving style. If you feather the gas on a downhill commute then yes, you can get great mileage. It's not that big of a deal. come down the mountain in the morning on your way to work and yes, you'll get great milleage.

The real test is filling up your tank, use the gas, refill the tank, calculate the mpg using the refill amount and the miles driven.

If you're getting an average of 30mpg on the way to work, you ain't getting it on the way home, guaranteed!

I agree. I don't trust the trip computer for any sort of 'accurate' measurement of fuel economy. I'd be interested in what the OP's calculated fuel economy is at the pump. The best I've ever done was 23.4 (fwiw, I'm a manual).

Never driven an RS4, so not really addressing that engine's efficiency. As I understand, they're better on fuel than the B6 S4.

There is no fucking way, though, that a B6 S4 is going 400 miles on a tank of gas during normal, day to day driving. I am lucky to get 300 miles per tank.

Bottom line - It's not what you drive it is how you drive it.
    Proof? Watch these videos:
    Video 1
    Video 2

    - and btw, we will drive our S4's/RS4's the way we want to, thanks for the concern.
