    How does my compression look?
    186 188 182 182

My car is a 98.5 1.8t with 153k miles. I seafoamed the car, did a couple of wot pulls, let it idle and then did my compression check since I was replacing the spark plugs anyway. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

    Re: compression results

looks good to me, but I'm no professional. Take the highest number x .15 = to get the lowest allowable number.

Mine was 155 on all 4, but I've got 260k on my motor.

those results are good. You got a healthy motor from the looks of it.

    Re: compression results

CR #'s look good. Might want to look at having a leak down test done because with that many miles on the engine your compression #'s could look good because of a good amount of carbon build up.

    Good or fantastic for 153k?

That depends on if it has zero % for leak down.

    Re: compression results

Thanks for the response. I'll do a leakdown with my next oil change since I change my spark plugs with every oil change. What's the best way to clean out the carbon if it's built up? I've done many seafoam treatments on the engine in the past and I like to add seafoam to the oil and let it idle for 15 min or so before I change it every oil change.

Could always find someone that has the tools to look inside so you can know exactly how it looks inside the cylinders. I was watching one of the truck shows and they featured a small camera/screen tool from Ridgid for doing just that.

Yeah I run meth and it cleaned it right up alright. It also showed my true compression which is between 165 and 145 psi and I only have 91k miles on my car. But my pistons are probably squeaky clean though.

So are your cylinder walls which is why your compression is down so soon. That is one down side of running meth since it pretty much washes your walls of oil.

I don't think cleaning the carbon is a good idea because u will prolly loose hp and loose compression.

Will tunning meth help me any with my pc16 setup? Or will it require tweaking? So running meth helps clean the carbon? Does it improve engine performance because it cleans the carbon?

but at the same time you will probably gain some power by running meth if tuned for it.. ha

Well the problem with the ndbw cars is that you cant add more timing using any of the tweaking tools like Lemmiwinks. So unless your getting way too much timing CF the meth is only going to help by decreasing IAT's and increase your octane level during WOT. You might see a slight gain at that point.
