Exclamation Brake warning light on, but

I cannot find anything wrong. The pads were replaced 12K miles ago and the outside pads (haven't removed wheels yet) look almost new. Rotors were changed at the same time.
The brake fluid is at the max mark, after shaking the bottle to see where the fluid is. Rotten place to put the reservoir!

I didn't check the float yet or the connections. The brakes work great.

Where should I start on this 2001 A4, 2.8L? Besides trading up for a newer 2.0T?

    Thanks...

Re: Brake warning light on, but

I don't mean in insult your intelligence (or mine), and I'm guessing you checked this, but is it possible the e-brake is sticking up just a little bit? or maybe the e-brake sensor is messed? I know on my '97 the e-brake light and the brake-problem light are one in the same, and oftentimes my e-brake will stay one clip up without me noticing and cause the light to come on. Just a thought

Re: Brake warning light on, but

This is not the red BRAKE light, but the yellow one that looks like a drum brake in the info center.
The Info center is starting to lose its top and bottom display when the console get hot. I am wondering if that is what is causing the "problem". Brakes work just fine, and when I first start the car in the garage I get the yellow OK symbol.
The car is now sitting in the sun getting warm and I will take a better look after a bit. The brake lights also all work.
It does look a lot like the Canadian version of error message than the American version.

Re: Brake warning light on, but

Forgive me, my car is much simpler than yours. I don't even have a screen, I just have 3 lights. I also have to Flintstone my car around via a rusted hole in the floor.

Re: Brake warning light on, but

What a lot of frustration! Car interior temp was at 110F, the top of the info display was gone, the bottom line was a squiggle, AND I got OK when I put it in gear.
Well, the bottom line of what looked like OK. The error message will not come back. I wonder if it is a brake light bulb that is acting up? That is the only message in the owner's manual that would make sense, except that with the original error I check the lights and all 3 came on.
