So driving to my friends house last night i was going around a corner and i got on it a little but not completely and all of a sudden i heard a loud boommmm cluck cluck and it kinda felt like a flat...so i pulled over and looked at the tires and everything checked out. so i got back in and stated going and i just heard very bad knocking. so i turned the car around to bring it home to see what was wrong. i made it like 20 feet and then the car didnt move. Basicly it was in 1st but it was acting like it was out of gear. so i looked under the hood and the crank shaft wasnt conected...... WTF i had this exact one replaced because of a accident in the winter. Maybe they didnt fix it correctly i dont know but im pissed. i got it toed to the dealer. but its saturday so they wont look at it untill monday. I hope it gets covered under warrenty. It should i turned the chip back to stock. I just really hope its gets covered through warrenty thats what im worried about, this shouldnt happen at all! im so pissed right now.

    Re: WTF Crankshaft

You do know the crankshaft is the thing INSIDE the engine that your rods/pistons are connected to? Who fixed it in the winter?

    Re: WTF Crankshaft

How do you just see that the crank isn't connected? Its the bottem-end of the engine. Unless you blew your oil pan, their's no way you can just "see the crank". Unless the simple thought that a crank in an Audi is in a completly different location compaired to SB-350s?
Depending on how long the warrenty is on replacements, its completly up to the Dealer/Audi weather it not it should be replaced. I know that GM is 12 month/10,000 Mile warrenty on powertrain parts that are replaced at a GM Dealership. Good luck

I vote for this being an axel issue, CV joint specifically.

Yeah, a crankshaft is not your axle or driveshaft.

this really is an easy fix, you just need a new axle, its maybe like $170

It happens on a lot of vehicals. So i wouldn't act so surprised. You just need the dealership to look up the history or your vehical, and somehow get it replaced under parts warrenty for a defect and go from there. If not, it is somewhere around a $200 part and most likely 2 hours labor will be charged.

    Re: WTF Driveshaft +pic

If the person who replaced the axle didn't correctly torque the stretch bolts or reused the original bolts, they (the bolts) may have gradually backed off. If you are really lucky you may only need new bolts. I saw this happen once.

No worries. You'll have your car back quickly.

    Edit:

The picture just came up for me. Forget my bolt idea. Time for a new axle.

    Re: WTF Driveshaft +pic

Your half-axle is fucked up. I think it's around $150 + labor, I don't remember from when I had one replaced years ago.

If you had it repaired in the past, it was not installed correctly. I would contact the people who did the work

    Re: WTF Driveshaft +pic

Yeah, it's not that big of a deal. I hit a curb years ago and pulled the half-axle out completely and thought OMFG I BROKE MY TRANSMISSION AND CAUSED THOUSANDS IN DAMAGE but it really isn't shit. An hour or two labor it all it takes, but whoever fixes it will probably have to order the axle (assuming you need one) so that might take a week tops depending on if they need to order it from Germany like when I broke mine...

    Re: WTF Driveshaft +pic

That's crappy man. It'll be alright though. I've pulled axles plenty of times when changing transmissions or clutches and other jobs specifically on Honda's. You should be really happy that is wasn't your crankshaft or you're engine would of made all sorts of noises that sounded like horribly grinding and clanking of small metal chunks. That would've been a new engine. If you're lowered that may be the only reason it may not be covered. But if its been replaced once, then it should be replaced again by fault of either A) someone put in a used axle B) the c/v boot was already torn and you didn't know it, but it may have been torn through the replacement install and you didn't notice the grease flying all over the place before this happened. Either way, easy fix, and not expensive. But hopefully it will be replaced under warranty.

    Best of luck to you.

Well the good news is that to deny the claim they have to PROVE that the modification caused the problem.

The bad news is that you have to sue them to make it happen, otherwise "its your fault so pay me".

Thats why you need to make lots of friends at your dealership. Its so gay that audi does this shit just because some people like to make their car look and perform to their own style....

    Re: WTF Driveshaft +pic

I had to piece together what you wrote because I thought it was a text message you wrote while you were driving but anyways.....

I would price out the cost of one axle through autozone or some other company that can sell it to you and get a quote on labor cost somewhere to get it installed. I'd say install it yourself but you may end up breaking the boot on the ball joint if these cars are designed that way while taking off the old axle. Seriously, its not that hard to do yourself, but if you don't know then you don't know.

BTW, why didn't you take it to the people who installed it over the winter and show them how it ruptured? Axle's don't blow up like that unless you where doing some HARD launches...hmm....is there more to this story?

    Re: WTF Driveshaft +pic

haha yea i was txtin it from work haha.... but the steelership said that im too low thats why it happened, and thats a buch of bs. well its kinda too late becuase i told them to do it. but im going to try to reduce the price some how im gonna do some bitching...customer service comes first so ill get some knocked off. One question though when u delete a code isnt there a code history they can look up in vag?

they don't just knock off a price after bitching at them... especially when they think it's your fault because of your suspension. since you mentioned it a couple times it seems you are kind of convinced that it was your suspension too. If they haven't started work on your car... tell them you'll take whatever they ordered and take it to another shop.

    Re: WTF Driveshaft +pic

If you look at the images you can tell it IS a CV joint and the boot appears to have ruptured (indicated by the grease splatter on the inside of the engine bay and wheel well).

This will require a replacement and $860 is WAY too much. An indy can do it for half or less with OEM parts. Improper lowering can cause stress on those axle components thus leading to failure but proper lowering should not.
