MA Inspection

My car is due up for inspection at the end of this month but with my exhaust its really really loud. Any chance you guys know of a place anywhere in Mass that i can take it to that wont worry about it? If you dont feel like telling the world feel free to PM me.. thanks!

It would help if you noted what part of Mass you are from.

As long as it passes emissions you should be good..they shouldn't fail you for being loud.. just my opinion of course.. is it still loud at idle I don't think they rev it up like here in MD or at least they didn't back in April when I did mine in Bourne, MA

I am in western Mass in Amherst, but i have friends/family in the Boston area, and ill be driving to the north shore, and then the cape on Monday so ill be everywhere.

They dont rev my engine, but even with a blip of the throttle to pull it into the engine bay will get the mechanic suspicious. It really is that loud. I had 2 places tell me they wouldn't inspect my car last year because it was to loud, and i only had a catback on back then, not the fullback i have now.

I had a 3.5" straight pipe setup, no cats, mufflers or resonators. And I brought it in to get inspected. They didn't even think twice about the noise and were fine with it. The police thought it was too loud.

BTW I didn't pass due to emissions.

as long as your ecu thinks you have cats (run the non-foulers) then you will pass since they dont use the sniffer on our cars

I passed inspection with 3" straight pipes (no cats, resonators, or mufflers)

In MA if your exhaust is to loud they won't pass you.

You're right my CEL wasn't on but it's no where near the legal decibels.

I ran the same exhaust setup as you. 3" turbo-back with no cats, mufflers, or resonators, and MA inspection stations didn't have an issue with the noise. The fuzz did, as I got pulled over one time for accelerating too quickly, not based on visual but based on hearing my exhaust.

When was this? It's been getting harder and harder. The she shop you must of went to didn't care or it was awhile ago.. they definitely don't let anything past like that nowadays. I know because I tried to get it legit sticker one time instead of the way I have to do it and I went to at least 3 different stations in 4 cities/towns, each one pretty much laughed. You are right though, the cops will get you big time it's happened quite a few times

I'd try a few places in good old Springfield. My buddy with an STI with a nice Borla setup is extremly loud and passed with no problems at 1357 EAST COLUMBUS AVENUE called Robbie's Auto & Truck Repair. They seemed like good ol'boys and weren't too concerned with the exhaust sound. If they don't work I'd just get a list of places in Springfield and drive around to them and just ask them flat out when you get there if they'll fail you for how loud the exhaust is. Good luck!

Shell Station in Newbuyport has an older gentlemen running the inspection station. He is big on german cars, so as long as you pass the emissions aspect that is all he cares about. Tints won't fly though.

I essentially brought my car in there with open dumps and he didn't even mention it.
