I plan on chipping the 2.0t but will I miss the power of the G over the Audi?

My cousin has a G35 Sedan 6 speed and my car with APR 93 Octane Chip, Test Pipe, and AWE Exhaust which cost me about 1600 bucks and my car was a bit quicker.

If you like to mod, the 2.0T is a great motor. If you're not that adventurous, then stick with the G. And I know you didn't ask about it, but interior wise, the Audi is on a whole other level.

I'd say you would be happy after a chip and exhaust. I've heard terrible things about the G's manual gearbox though so ours should be a step up

I had a MK4 GTI and the leather/interior was bomb proof. My G has the worst leather ever!

It cracked so bad after a few months that I went on a diet thinking it was my fat aass that cracked it. But after losing a few pounds it still sucks. OK that is a lie but it did crack as if I weighed 500lbs

    Re: Currently have a 03 G35 Coupe MT6 will I be disappointed?

Had a g35c 6mt, recently got a g37s, and I must say if you get an A4, you wouldn't be disappointed. I assume you're getting a manual? Chip it, get an exhaust and you'll have fun.

They're two entirely different animals. Rear wheel power versus all wheel drive fun in the twisties. As Auditude said, the G can be beaten with some mods. The interior is better in Audi than the G35, but the G37 interior is much improved. They fixed the 'rattling stick shift', so your hand isnt twitching while driving down the road. They incorporated the Nav screen into the dash instead of raising from behind the radio. The [white] leather stitching in the [black] seats is sleek as well.

Love both cars, but I don't think you'd be disappointed.

You may be doubting yourself on the drive home from the dealership though.

as some said, they are 2 different animals.
    after owning g35c for 4 years and a4 2.0tq for almost a year, here's my experience/opinion.

besides having more power, g35c's steering feedback/response is more connected and direct and the handling in non-extreme condition is better.

when my a4 was completely stock, the only performance advantage over g35c was its cornering ability w/ quattro....I was quite impressed with the amount of grip it had when I pushed it pretty hard around the corners.
after adding just 2 mods at fairly affordable prices (less than $1,000 for both), although it still lacks the low-end torque severely, my a4 pulls much harder and frankly it's pretty enjoyable.
the steering feedback is still not as direct/precise as I'd like it to be, it's pretty sweet to see how much its cornering ability has gotten even better after installing the rs4 rear sway bar (at around $150).

I'm one of those peeps that think the g35c's interior is pretty decent.
with that said, the a4's interior is far better than the g35c's.
there are "only" 2 major problems with the a4's interior - absolutely no lateral support in the front seats and extremely inconvenient hand-brake/armrest design.
other than these, the a4's interior is better than any other cars in its class.

    I like both cars.
it's fun to play with the g35c for its rear-wheel-drive characteristics and a great amount of torque at any level....and its pleasant exhaust notes.
it's also fun to play with the a4 for its impressive grip around the corners and twisties as well as the decent power with good fuel economy....and its interior is just second to none.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with a4 2.0t, as long as you get a quattro w/ ECU chipped and have a realistic expectation of it being a sport sedan, not a sports car.

however, you'll miss the seats and low-end torque of g35c for sure.
    is that a deal breaker?
    for me, not really.
    hope my opinion/experience helps.
    good luck!

    I had a heavily modded N/A Z and currently I own a 3.2 Quattro. Its very different.

You won't be disappointed in the 2.0T as the mods are readily accessible. But treat it as a sports sedan NOT a sports car or otherwise you'll be wishing you still had the G.

id like to see a chipped a4 v.s. a g35. i still think a g35 would beat it. i think some people are being overly optimistic. there are probably people that think they can beat a g37 too. i doubt anyone could without a new turbo. the a4 is a great car, but without a new turbo the engine isnt that powerful.

G37s is 330hp out of the box, and it pulls in every gear 1-6. MUST get a V1 soon, or there's gonna be trouble!

These japanese cars just dont stand the test of time. my friend has a g with about 40k on it and the steering wheel leather is completely worn off at the top and his clutch is starting to go as well.

You will like the audi but you will prob miss the rear wheel drive burnouts.

    Re: Currently have a 03 G35 Coupe MT6 will I be disappointed?

I currently use my G as a DD and last winter was not fun! I have to put a new set of $800 snows on every season = not cool. Snows only last me one season in the G I guess a result in how I drive. I want a standard/AWD car and after looking at the inside of the BMW 328xi I was like "$30k for this? The inside looks weak sauce." I would go with the G35x if they made it standard. So the contenders are A4, 328xi, Volvo s60r. Overall I like the looks of the A4 the best and I will buy preowned so Audi does offer 1.9% on preowned certified right now. I bet with the rising increase of fuel costs the resale on the 2.0t will be good down the road.

I guess I need to test drive some cars!

Here watch this video, both cars are stock.

    the grey car = G35
    the red car = Audi

Truthfully though just test drive both, sleep on it, test drive them again, then make your decision.. good luck

    Re: Currently have a 03 G35 Coupe MT6 will I be disappointed?

Another thing to add to my rant above about my brother's 2005 G35 coupe MT6, because of the winter in Pittsburgh (snow but not terrible, worse in Milwaukee) he couldn't even get up a small slope (his driveway for example) in his car. It was so sad he told me his is putting it away in the garage for this entire winter for their Ford Explorer because its not worth trying to drive that thing in the snow. I think that answers your question right there....

Also, if you search there has been a thread discussing this before

    hahah

My G is a 2003 and I think this year the motor only puts out 270hp? In 05-07 they were 300hp.

I looked at the S60R as well. Here are the downsides I found, maybe they can help you.

    1) 02/03+ all look the same
    2) The AWD is pathetic
    3) Gas mileage is nowhere near the 2.0T (I don't care what anyone tells you)
    4) Hard to find one that hasn't been abused.

    Re: Currently have a 03 G35 Coupe MT6 will I be disappointed?

I also had a G35 for 4 years, I would say you will not be disappointed as long as you chip it and put on exhaust right away. If you are not intersted in chipping and modding the exhaust at minimum I would say you will be disappointed. Although the 6Mt makes this A4 so much better in my opinion, with out the chip, it just does not have that high end performance that I craved after owning the G35, not to say either car is crazy fast, but the are similar after chip and exhaust. The G35 may be about .5 sec fast to 60 stock, but the Audi is much more functional, I went from a G35 coupe to the Audi Avant and man do I recommend it unless you don't like avants :)....

Good luck and don't hesitate I would try to get an 08 if you can because the 09's look like Bimmers:)..

Also kooltechie comparison is pretty dead on, they are similar speed wise but somewhat different animals but can be enjoyed in there own way.

I dont think I could buy a Volvo just because its a Volvo. I know some are nice they are just an older persons car in my mind(I am 26.) I was looking at the s60r but the only thing I liked about the car was the HP/TQ and the fact that you can get AWD in standard. The A4 is hands down a much beter looking car than the s60r and looks are much more important then whats on the inside to me. haha
