    Unhappy Is this dangerous?

So I got my 9500ix radar detector (oh yeah) and I decided to hardwire it. I purchased the direct hardwire cable from Escort and tried my hand at it. I couldn't find any information as to a good 12V source--only info I found was a DIY guide hardwiring it to the sunroof wiring--in my Cabriolet. I figured my car wouldn't have that convenient 12V wire since I don't have a sunroof. Am I wrong? Anyways, I was able to connect the cable directly to my trailer socket fuse and was wondering if there is any danger in doing so. I have the ground wire hooked to the screw next to the fuse box as the DIY guide had it. I just don't want my RD to get damaged and was wondering if there is any danger in connecting it directly to that fuse. It doesn't turn on/off with the car, which I would like, but seems to be doing the job as far as concealing the wire.

    Thanks in advance...

    Re: Is this dangerous?

You can always jump the power off a switchable 12v source with an add a circuit from an auto store... I added my boost gauge circuit to the reverse lights.. the ground should be fine

    Re: Is this dangerous?

I have mine wired threw my fuse box, and have also wired a few things threw the fuse box on my old car.

I have never had a problem and wouldn't think it was dangerous.

    Re: Is this dangerous?

Good to know. I'll take a picture and show you exactly what I'm talking about. I'm just worried that the wire isn't specific to go to a fuse box but it seems to be working. It doesn't fit the hole perfectly but it seems to be working well.

ive got mine wired to the remote wire for my headunit/subwoofers. just make sure you look up wether its negative or positive polarity. i fried a radar detector by not looking that up. started billowing smoke. haha

    Re: Is this dangerous?

Well, I have the wire hooked onto the right hole of the trailer socket fuse. That's the positive right and that's where it should be place?! The ground is hooked onto the screw to the left of the fuse box. Is that ok also?

    Re: Is this dangerous?

this is not dangerous to do. but make sure you use a fuse tap or you can damage the fuse socket. plus make sure the side you tap dosent show 12 volts (ie with the fuse out one side will show 12volt the other will not) as this is the fused side. i find it better to go to the ignition harness and catch ignition. just make sure you use a fuse.
