Is it necessary to remove the cam lock plug? Some set of instructions say so, and others dont? I cant seem to find it on the other hand!

Honestly, I would think that lining up all timing marks should do it without any tool... But thats just me

So, the answer is, if the timing stays on, it stays on

Please don't assume timing is good. You don't need to pull out the cam plugs but you definitely need a cam lock bar and a pulley puller to get your timing to be 100% on.

How do I know? I've done probably 7-8 of them now.

I 2nd the cam lock bar. If your experienced then you dont need it but its somthing to have for sure.

As far as using the cam lock pin, I didnt use it. I havent started my car but I'm pretty sure its ok. As long as you used the cam lock bar you dont have to much to worry about. the lock pin is just extra insurance

2nd half /\ his statement. You don't really need the crank lock pin so long as the tick marks line up on the plastic shield and the crank pulley. I was always using the pin until I spoke with another Audi tech who had done about 100 TB's on 2.7T's and he said he never used it. You always need the cam lock bar though. If you can't get it on, then your timing is not 100% on.

    Re: timing belt diy question

    I can't count the number of V6 / V8 timing belts I've replaced.

    That includes all from run-of-the-mill V6 / V8, to (R)S4 / RS6.
I've never used the locking bar, but that's not to say you shouldn't use it, if you're not 100% confident.

Line up the TDC mark on the crank pulley, then use the cam lock bar. You won't have any problems.

    Re: timing belt diy question

I ended up putting in the drain plug along with the cam lock bar.
I installed the timing belt without removing the sprockets and hoping when I crank up the car tomorrow everything is fine.

The reason I'm somewhat worried is due to my cam sprocket jerking to the right about 45 degrees when I was tightening the gear puller in the cam bolt. I ended up just turning it back and lining it up with the other cam. I would have taken the sprockets out if my gear puller would not of just snapped

IS there any chances I messed up the timing?

    Re: timing belt diy question

If in doubt, please don't even attempt to fire the car up, till you get it checked out by someone who knows the correct procedure / settings.

That's the advice I give anyone who ever rings me to confirm timing issues.

Maybe but i doubt it. If it only spun 45 degrees then i would say your fine, but you could have bent a valve if you spun it any more. Ayways, there's really no way of knowing till you start the car up. But I'm pretty sure you'll be fine.
