Changed plugs to Copper, Now Rough Idle!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I changed my plugs to the NGK coppers and I am getting a very rough idle. Any ideas?

I've read a lot about them and they are supposed to be pretty sweet for our B6's, so what's the deal?

    Thanks guys!

I've read the gap should be at 0.28 or 0.32. I have no clue which one to choose. I have copper plugs but don't know what to gap them to.

I have APR S1 software and have mine gapped to .028 and haven't had any problems with idle or drivability...

Re: Changed plugs to Copper, Now Rough Idle!!

Im stock but I gapped mine to "0.032" and the car runs better with them. more power.

    however,
this morning (its been a week and a half since I installed them), I started the car, rpms rose to 1100 for half a second, dropped to 700 for another half a second, and quickly rose back up to the 1100 rpm for the warm up. ran fine for the rest of the day too, I just think it nothing to worry about, but who knows?

6E's are the same temp as stock but a shittier plug, get yourself some NGK BKR7E's if you want copper. If you want better plugs that last more than 3-5k miles, get Denso IK24's

Re: Changed plugs to Copper, Now Rough Idle!!

I have read that AudiGeeks post before, thank you. That is the reason I went with these plugs. Don't know why the idle is worse though.

They are NGK BKR6E-11, gapped 0.032. My car is stock.

Higher RPM seems pretty nice, 60-120mph pulls seem a lot nicer, but it runs a lot rougher when idled. I have no idea!!

Re: Changed plugs to Copper, Now Rough Idle!!

my car had a hesitation starting this morning... AGAIN. with the copper plugs.

had the timing belt, water pump, and fuel filter changed yesterday (friday) AFTER the original hesitant start so it isnt that.

might be the plugs, but not sure. Ill have to see how long this problem persists and maybe change the plugs soon

    Bump.

I really need some advice here. That AudiGeeks post stated that the 7E's are not the best for my temp range (ie. stock) and they will actually perform less in my motor. Need to figure out why the 6E's are givin me shit!!!

Always start at .032 and if you get blow out just decrease the gap a little at a time. The larger the gap the more voltage is used since the resistance is larger, so this is why you want to start at .032 and then work down.

its not the plugs... the bkr7e's were flawless for all 45k i drove last year... you just need to change them every 5-7k miles
