It's actually not that bad but that's NY for you. I checked out Liberty Mutual before when I was shopping around for insurance and they were quoting me $10,000 for 6 months! And that's with a discount cause the college I went to was an affiliate.

Didn't read the rest of the thread so I don't know if anyone covered this...but whoever sold you your insurance should have their insurance licenses taken away. Really.

Do you really want 20/40 and I'm assuming 15 coverage (20/40/15) with liability only. Do you know what those numbers mean?

I'm guessing since your posting in the B7 forum, you have a relatively new car, and since your paying for legal minimum coverage you don't have a lot of $. Thus, if your car was totalled, you'd probably be financially screwed. So for one, get full coverage, and for two, get at the very minimum 100/300/100 coverage.

Let me break down 20/40/15 for you.

20 = $20,000 in medical coverage ins will pay for 1 person
40 = $40,000 total for accident medical coverage (minivan with 5 people caps at $40K)
15 = $15,000 is property damage (car, house, pole, whatever you hit)

What happens when you pull out in front of a $60,000 escalade and total it. Or you total anyones here B7? Insurance will pay $15K and you pay the rest. Oh, and btw...its not I don't have it they can't take it with insurance. You immediately loose your assets, car/house/bank accounts, then have your wages garnished for the rest of your life. Simple as that.

Oh, and if for the very least you don't care about other peoples medical bills...the 20/40 copies to your uninsured/underinsured coverage. So if someone hurts you, and they have no insurance, your insurance will still only cover 20/40, most likely making you pay out of pocket.

Do you know what one week in the hospital costs? I spent 4 hrs with a seperated shoulder, they told me time will heal it, gave me 2 xrays and an arm sling. All in all I spent 4 hrs there...mostly in the waiting room, and it was $6K. So if you put someone in the hospital with any accident, $20K won't cover it.



Please, please, please increase your coverage. It's worth the money.

24, Chicago Area, $540 w/o truck for 6months, and $780 w/ truck.
That is full coverage, every option maxed, zero deductible on comp (just got a new windshield and front bumper painted for free), and $1000 for collision.


No tickets. I did just get rear ended on my bike and got a 'braking too fast' ticket, but I got that thrown out so I think my record stays spotless.
