Calling all dropped on 19x8.5 and running 245/35s

OK, bought my OZ SL's off a friend a few months back... Tires had 6,000 miles on them, I put another 2,000 since having them on the car...

Before I bought the wheels I had the S in for the 55K service and asked them to check the alignment, they told me they did the alignment when they did the CPO inspection on the car about 1,500 miles before and said it was good. (with stock wheels).

There is a SLOOOOW leak, so slow that after putting 40psi in the front tire last saturday when they were moderately warm, it is still showing the exact tire pressure as the other side which I also put 40psi in... And on the inside of both front wheels the tread is gone... How is this possible if the alignment was correct? granted it was on the stock wheels but, isn't the total diameter of the tire the same, or is the stock set up have a slight negative camber up front for obvious reasons and the 245's just should not be up front?

The Wheels are 19x8.5 with 245/35 Falken ZE 452's and I had/have some rubbing at higher speeds and hit a dip in the road but, haven't heard any in quite a while...

I plan on (upon return from my deployment next spring) throwing a set of H&R C/O's on the car with a moderate drop...

I like the idea of running 245's on the car since the actual tire sticks out a bit farther than the wheel face to help with curbing the wheels and the bigger patch touching the road. I've been reading quite a few posts after a search regarding people running 245/35's and some have said they get rubbing, some have said they don't... All with mixed suspension set ups...

I'm looking at getting another set of 245/35's and read some of your opinions, looks like two of the highest rated tires are Michelin PilotSport PS2's and Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's... I've found the PS2's on tirerack and discounttiredirect for roughly the same price... What is a good distributor of the Vredestein's? And what would I have to do to avoid rubbing on a slight drop, besides removing the fender liner bolt?

I apologize for the mix of questions/issues but, isn't that what we are here for?

    Thanks in advance!

What's the ET on the wheels. I think that will have an impact on wether they rub or not?

I had rubbing every once in awhile with my RS-GT's with Toyo 245's on them. Nothing major, but if I hit a deep dip it would hit a little. Otherwise they were perfect with a F-G of about 24.75 or so.

Re: Calling all dropped on 19x8.5 and running 245/35s

The wear on the inside of both front tires might be because of the camber. If it was one tire more than the other then that would mean alignment almost for sure. I honestly don't know what "stock" is, so sorry I can't help there.

Are you sure the OZ SL aren't 19x8"? It's not a big deal, I just thought most of them are except the SL IIIs (OZ UL and SL). Either way, I believe the offset is 35. I have 245/35 on my OZ UL (19x8 et35) and I did rub with my suspension on the softest settings (PSS9s). I firmed up the back a bit and left the fronts at the softest setting (weird I know, but I'm all about comfort on these shitty roads). Taking out the front bolt at 12 o'clock on the fender liner stopped all rubbing in the front. The ONLY time I rub at all is in the back with 1-2 people in the back and that's over bumps where I know I'll rub.

Keep in mind that certain tires are wider than others, even if they're all the same reported width.

I run them, with et35 and have a moderate drop, I know the rear is 26.25" from the ground to the fender and front probably 26". Never any rubbing at all, and have driven in NYC w/ 4ppl in the car.

good question, i think the OZ SL's though are 8.5... I know the UL's are different...

I'll double check soon... i'll have to do it next month when i return...

yeah, i didn't think the alignment was off (well, technically it is if the camber is wrong, part of the alignment) i mean i was gonna take it in to get fixed... if it is the camber thats off then it will definitely rub after new tires and corrected camber

any ideas on the Vredestein's distributers?

Re: Calling all dropped on 19x8.5 and running 245/35s

If the inside of your tires are rubbing and worn down its your camber, and it can be fixed with a proper alignment. i had this happen not 5k miles after i bought my cpo s4. apparently the guys who did the previous alignment put in the wrong camber settings. the guy explained it all to me while he was doing it but i forgot 90% of it. all i remember was the -me needing to replace two brand new front P zeros because someone was a tool.

ask your alignment guy to show you the setting he is using for your camber, they should have it all in a book or on a computer. if youve got the same rolling diameter as stock 18s then use the stock setting.

edit: ive also been told its kind of a design issue with the s4 and the stock camber setting (even the correct one) and it can be mitigated by rotating your tires frequently. but if yours are already torn up, fix it and change tires

sounds good to me man, thank you... i'll have to hold off until i can find a dealer (preferably local, shipping here to hawaii is ridiculous) for the Vredestein's

The Vredestein tires...there are some Audizine vendors that sell them. Maybe post in the wheel/tire section? Other than that, sorry I can't be of any help.

For the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta try these:

oempl.us - give Rick a call he said he could help.
performanceplustires.com - have them on backorder
tires-easy.com - I think they also have them on backorder
