well this has been an adventure for sure... some of you may remember that last year i was looking/thinking about getting Sportec forged 20"s Mono 10 and had gotten a "sample" shipped out to me by Scott@Rival...
you might remember these pics from Feb of last year...
i had always wanted a set of those, and it had been a while i had been thinking about getting them, i just didn't have the guts to roll on 20"s... but having had both a set of 18"s and then a set of 19" of the Sportec Mono 10, and even a set of the 19"s SportTechnic, which i regret having ever ordered, the 20" were calling my name... so towards the end of March '07, as bonus season rolled around, i wisely (......) thought i would spend that bonus on a set of these puppies and so i placed an order in w/ Scott...
well unfortunately apparently Sportec back in Schwitzerland like to take their time when it comes to filling order from their distributors...
a couple of weeks after i placed the order, communications started breaking down btw all the parties involved... Sportec giving the run-around to Scott, Scott for whatever reasons not following up w/ me as often as i would have liked, and trust me i was being really really both patient and "understanding"...
April, May, June, July, August and finally half of September came and went w/o any sign of these rims... until finally i was provided w/ actual tracking numbers... but for only 3 packages/boxes...
i'm not sure why only 3 rims were sent out by Sportec, i was told they assumed that since Scott already had in his possession a demo rim (...look above... that's the rim...) there was no need to send 4, and only 3 would do... well i wasn't too happy about that since i had actually paid for 4 brand new rims, and not 3 and a demo one, but how well, at least i was getting my rims...
the tires, a set of 245/30R20 Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta, had, in the meantime, been at a fellow AZer's shop, Ron@e-Motorsport (aka mtRon) in Hayward-CA, where the rims were going to be delivered too...
so excited i was... my rims were finally here... yeah!!! ...
well not so fast...
after the boxes were delivered at the shop i got a phone call from Ron followed by an email w/ some attachments...
... i guess FedEx didn't want me to be rolling on 20"s...
so i got in touch w/ Scott ASAP to inform him of the situation and the fact that there was no way in hell i was going to mount a tire on that rim, regardless whether or not that chip could be seen or not once the tire was mounted... actually i wasn't going to mount any tires until i had all 4 rims i had ordered. period.
unfortunately Scott decided to wait until the claim was processed by FedEx before ordering another rim... but that wasn't really clearly communicated to me. i was expecting another rim to be ordered right away especially given how long it took them in to send the rims the first time around... well it took FedEx about 3 months to settle the claim and to issue a refund for the rim, so finally came the New Year a replacement rim was finally ordered...
problem is that Sportec once again took all the time in the World to process that order and it took another couple of month before the replacement rim was finally on its way to the States...
well in the end, it took over a year for the complete set of undamaged rims to get here... was the wait worth it? well in a year a lot of things changes, one of them being that my Sportec front molded bumper had to be removed b/c it had gotten to beat-up by the Bay road... and i do wonder whether or not i should get it fixed, and w/ my Sportec bumper being off, more than once, while i was waiting for the wheels to show up, i wonder if it was all worth it now that i had put my S4 bumper back on...
well anyway i did get the tires mounted to the rims and put them on the Avant and boy i love those rims... love the colour, love the finish, love the clean 10 spokes design, love the lip... love it all...
the Avant looks definitively higher to ground than on 18"s or 19"s, probably about half an inch and a pair of side skirts could benefit the overall look, but it isn't as bad as i feared it may end up being...
in fact i stopped wondering whether it was all worth it... they're there, i like them, it's all what matters...
the B6S4 calipers look so tinny behind 20"s...
now even though i owned both a set of 18" and a set of 19"s Sportec i had forgotten how damn good these looked... they look so good that i'm even tempted to ditch my set of 18" OZ Superleggera for a set of 18" Sportec...
finally i want to express my gratitude to Ron@e-Motorsport whom i cannot thank enough for storing the tires and the rims for over a year free of charge! THANK YOU Ron!!!
