    What cleaning products....

Just wondering what you guys use to clean your cars, especially paint. My car is black and I'm looking to give it a nice detailing job. Ideally, I'd like to remove as many of the fine scratches and imperfections as possible. Will a clay bar help with that? I'm thinking of ordering a Zymol kit detailing kit. What do you guys use? What works the best??

    Re: What cleaning products....

i am pretty big into detailing cars i used to do it in high school at a autobody shop. I personally dont like the zymol kit too much residue left over and little tough to take it off. I would recommend if you are using a rotary buffer to get a Porter Cable from Phil at detail domain in the detailing forum! He gives a 15%discount to all AZ memebers with az as the promotion code.

The process i went through for my car and my cousins imola b6 s4 was the following.

Washed the car with Meguiars Gold Class car wash, dryed, then clay bar the whole car with megairs claybar kit. I then washed the cars again and used a air compressor or leaf blower to dry the whole car .

I then used Menzerna Intensive Micro Polish, then Menzerna Micro Polish, and sealed it with Menzerna FMJ (all with the porter cable 7424 kit i bought from Phil at detaildomanin). The wax i used after the FMJ was meguairs yellow carnuba wax as the final process. You have to use tons of MICROFIBER towels.

For the rims i used p21 wheel gel then scrubbed them with a boars hair brush, dryed. Then i used in my opinion the best wheel stuff, Adams Polishes 1 and 2. I spent about six to seven hours total doing both cars ( i also had my cousin helping me so it went faster).

I know it sounds like alot, but the time and money you spend doing this to your car, you will be VERY happy with the results!

All swirls and scratches were removed and the car turned out great. With your car being black you will see a really deep gloss to your car with this process, you really just have to look out for swirl marks when you do these steps because those show the most if not done right!

Or if you dont want to do all that! Call PHIL he is in NJ also, and he does AWESOME and i mean AWESOME work just check out the detailing forum and you will see what i am talking about. His number is 201-233-0003

    Re: What cleaning products....

A clay bar is used to remove contaminates from the surface of your paint. It is abrasive, so it might make your paint worse if not used properly. Menzerna products CheesmoS4 recommended are one of the finest products on the market today. Make sure you know how to use a rotory tool before you buy one. Again, it's a very good tool, but you can damage your paint badly if not used properly.

I've used many products and personally use either Zaino or Adams polishes with the Porter Cable and both work very well. I've also heard good things about the Griots but have not tried it out yet.

    Re: What cleaning products....

I have also tried as many products as i can get my hands on. I only use Adams Polishes now. the machine superwax kit is fantastic for shine and durability. buy one of their large kits, it will cost you $3-$400 but you will get the porter cable polisher, all products necessary to detail the interior, exterior, and engine bay, microfiber, and DVD instruction (enough to do several deatails) Their micofiber towels are unbelievable. believe me there is a significant difference in microfiber, it really changes the results you get. Adam's is the perfect example of product and process. follow their directions and you will impress yourself with the results. good luck!
