Calling all ziners who UPGRADED to DOWNPIPES

Okay - I've been doing my research on the zine, and on youtube, and I've come to the realization that youtube videos just don't give you an actual feeling of what an S4 catback actually sounds like. After hearing one in person, I was blown away!!!

But, I have a question for those of you with downpipes---could you describe the difference SOUNDWISE of going from a catback to a catback with downpipes. How much louder? Does it get more raw sounding? Or, is it just a bit louder sound than what the catback already provides?

Let me know if you can - and I have a surprise that will come about once I get my hands on a video camera

they give the deep growl sound, non-res cat-backs are a bit raspy, whereas a fullback non-res sounds like the engine is about to jump out of the car and punch you in the face

edit: ive had milltek fullback, then when the cats when out on the milltek dps i swapped back to stock dps and non-res catback

To me that is the best sounding exhaust set up. I have the catback, it sounds good but I will be getting downpipes. I missed out on the purchase of DP's from the above member>

That is one of the best ways to describe it. Has any one done piggies? for the cost you can't beat it. The dimensions are about the same but for about 1/2 the price. Any thoughts

DPs made my exhaust sound completely different. louder, deeper when just cruising, raspier when WOT.

I dont know if it is too much deeper...Just really really raw. Mine has a rasp to it and it is basically straight pipes...

Do it and then have a shop custom make you some couplers to attach it to the stock pipes (smaller diameter I believe). Then cut out the mufflers in the back and replace them with mufflers of your choice- magnaflow IMO.

Then you have a fullback which will sound insane for about 200+ the cost of the DPs

LaBree makes some amazing stuff. There's a B6 up here with a full system (downpipes and all) and it is perhaps the best sounding street car that I have heard in my life.

2 more q's........

1) What are the potential problems of running downpipes? Has anyone thrown codes or had engine probs with AWE downpipes?

2) How long does it take them to go bad? Any faster than stock ones? Is it because there are only two, rather than four, that the stock ones last longer because heat is dissipated over four units rather than two, making the stock setup last longer?

But, if the cats are HJS quality, like AWE, they are higher quality than stock. Does this mean they should last as long, if not longer, than the stock setup?

Definitely recommend downpipes. Increases hp and makes it sound like the devil clearing his throat!!

i have an A4 i put a TP and downpipes...the downpipes just helped the TP for a better flow
