Questions for the big turbo men.

Can the ATP testpipe mount to the stock downpipe? Trying to go GTRS, I have everything but a aftermarket downpipe...wondered if my Catback Magnaflow exhaust would work well with a GTRS as well. Thanks

Re: Questions for the big turbo men.

It will fit, but you will prolly have an exhaust leak since it will be going from 3" to < 2.5" (I don't know what stock is). There was a thread about someone complaining about an exhaust leak with an ATP test pipe=>stock dp a few days ago.

Actually a good testpipe will start from 3" and the testpipe will actually size down to 2.5" to match up perfectly to the downpipe!

Also if you have a cat back exhaust, that would include a down pipe.. which would most likely be 2.5" ????

Re: Questions for the big turbo men.

The magnaflow exhaust is I suppose a downpipe back exhaust...Didn't come with a downpipe. Whats the stock downpipe size?

I have this exhaust, http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=all&id=4916 it doesn't have a downpipe...

This is the setup I am getting...

ATP GTRS / ATP Manifold / Neuspeed Turbo Inlet Pipe / ER Sport FMIC / 440cc Genesis Injectors / Turbonetics variable boost controller, and ATP testpipe.

So i guess my question is will it work? Turbo -> atp testpipe -> stock downpipe -> magnaflow exhaust... or would i need to get an aftermarket downpipe...?

^^see the stock downpipe size for a tiptronic is 2.5" so ur ok there, reason u should have one made, is because the stock one has ridges that cuts floe, and like Mike said the ER comp testpipe is the way to go, but i'm sure ur setup would work to!

No way the stock DP is 2.5" for a manual lol. Inner diameter of the stock DP for manual is a whole 2" (just measured mine not 10 min ago)

You sure about that? When I owned a NS exhaust it was 2.36" inner diameter. Unless they changed their design that is what it is. (metric vs. US)

Re: Questions for the big turbo men.

the guy who started the thread and asked the question is manual correct? If so, then all my previous posts are 100% correct for what he is asking. If you are a tip, I think it should be in your sig so we can all laugh at you ;) I don't expect to see BT and Tip used in the same sentence, even though I know there are a few of you on here with the combo.
I want to know how you figure exactly 2.5" for the tip DP when audi uses metric. I always measure inner diameter not outer diameter.

Re: Questions for the big turbo men.

The stock downpipe on a tiptronic b6 is NOT 2.5". I replaced the stock one with a 2.5" and you could very easily see the size difference. This is the downpipe i got:

    http://www.techtonicstuning.com/show...rtnum=251.124R

If you enlarge the photo you can see how the 2.5 pipe has a reduction it to match up to the rest of the stock exhaust. I ended up just cutting the reducer off since i was going from the 2.5 downpipe to a 3" Thermal R&D exhaust.

I really don't understand what the big deal with having a tiptronic is. Some of us spend more time in traffic and under 20mph than we get long stretches of road. It isn't like driving manual is the toughest thing on earth. I'm not being sarcastic at all, I'm really curious why it's a huge deal what kind of transmission someone else's car has. I'm hoping you can enlighten me.

Oh, and sorry for being off topic to the OP, I just figured this would be a good time to ask.

Possibly because a manual transmission is considered a pure driving experience. You are controlling the car with the throttle as well as the steering wheel/brakes etc. I personally don't like any type of auto because it's boring to me and I like to feel like I'm involved when I'm driving. I don't even know if I'd have a DSG because I probably would get bored with that too.

I do see why people would get a tip though. Especially if they live in an area where there is a lot of traffic. I love the control of a manual because sometimes it even makes my slow fat a4 feel like it's somewhat quick. Also, I can pretend I'm a rally driver in an old Quattro on my daily commute. ( even though I don't even have quattro )

Yea, I definitely get that it gives you more control over the car. If you're going to track it or anything as well I can see getting a manual. I just didn't get what exactly would be so hilarious about someone having a tip. Like I said, my 5-6 mile commute to work, I'm in traffic almost the whole way until I hit a short strip of highway towards the end. I'd be shifting probably a hundred times on the drive every day. Just wouldn't be worth it to me.

And I didn't mean to take anything away by saying driving manny isn't the toughest thing on earth. I just meant that even I could get around with one, I would just get pwned at the track/in a race of any kind where the driver actually matters.

lol! another tip vs. manual thread! Tip FAILS at life when it comes to drivetrain loss, but for people like me who spend 1.5hrs each way daily going 20 miles each way that's slow and going 1st-2nd-3rd then 3rd-2nd-1st constantly doesn't seem enjoyable!

I respect your opinion. But once you go Manual there is no turning back... everytime I drive an auto I found myself kind of bored or something I dunno. It's just that I have to use my right hand and left foot, I can't leave them alone.

Well you can expect me to use it in the same sentence because I'm Tiptronic and going BT. Laugh all you want, wouldn't affect my decision or make me love my car less. I can laugh about your engine blowing up :P. So just quit being a dick about it. Same to the rest, don't turn my thread into a TIP vs Manual thread. I need answers not useless online bickering.

I dont even think anyone makes a down pipe for the tip so you will most likely need to have it custom made.

You'll be fine, I just finished my BT build today and have the exact setup and it all bolted up quite nice. I have the full magnaflow exhaust/stock downpipe/ATP test pipe. You have nothing to worry about.

Thanks a4dit, thats exactly what I needed to hear.

Mike, there is a tiptronic downpipe made by fast intentions and techtonic tuning. I just didnt know if I needed right away, or could i get away with dealing with it later.

i just posted a link to the one i have above, there are others that make them too.

Again, the stock downpipe on a B6 A4 1.8t tiptronic is NOT 2.5" as you can see if you go back up a few posts.

and I posted up facts above, just like I ALWAYS do. Just because I was giving you a little shit about having a TIP does not mean I wasn't posting up facts on the question you asked to begin with. how was that "not helping"? I'll remember not to go out of my way next time and measure stuff for you, thanks ;)

The only major difference with that statement is you chose to buy a TIP, I did not choose to have my engine blow up the first time around. At least I was the first B6er around here to have the balls to do that build. A tip tranny could never hold the power I'm pushing right now which is the reason why I do not like that tranny. I see no one else went out to measure the stock dp for you, just me. Isn't getting a little shit from someone worth it to you if you get the answers you were looking for?

@CO AVANT: I hope you know I was just breaking your balls and didn't mean to start a huge tip vs manual thing. I really was curious as to why it would be hilarious for someone to own a tip, but your posts are always pretty informative and you contribute a lot more than most people. I was just messing around.

Back on topic though, I did notice that most exhaust systems usually say something like "downpipe not included for tiptronic". I'd probably go with the FI one (and most likely will) when the time comes. If you need a 100% definite answer maybe call them up and see if they have any idea.
