I usually wait about 45-1 minute depending on how long the trip or how hard I was on the gas to let the turbo cool down.

    a little overboard imo.

use a full/true synthetic oil and change it in regular intervals, I suggest 5k miles at most. I personally change my between 3-4k miles and I'm fully aware my oil is still good even at that point.

5 minutes is also a bit overboard, your engine/turbo cools down pretty quickly assuming you aren't tracking your car. you can easily log the temps using vag com by the way. If I'm driving it kind of hard, I will take it easy before I get to my destination and I may let it set for a minute. on a regular day, keeping things between 1.5-3k rpms I won't even bother unless I drove a long distance and the temps a bit high.

these engines aren't THAT bad, otherwise you'd be hearing about A LOT more sludge issues.

i don't see how what you're doing is hurting anything, so if gives you that peace of mind, do it.

If you're really concerned about letting the turbo cool down, get a turbo timer. It might cost money but at least you won't be sitting in your car like a dumbass for 5 minutes every time you get to your destination (which you took a roundabout route to just to go over 5km).

lol it's because i'm not sure how long it needs to cool down lolol, and i'm not sure how much long the oil needs to become hot enough to evaporate water etc.. my work is literally 3km away , not even 2miles.. so i do some crazy ass detouring try getting like 5miles (8km) or so lool, ya im crazy like that!. tubro timers.. i dono i'm on stock turbo.. kinda useless and will cause problems with the alarm i hear... but i baby everything i have.. just wanted to see what routine everyone had or needed..

I drive where I'm going and turn the car off. I'm stock and I just change the oil every 5k miles.

Wait, you're running stock??? What are you worrying about then? Why wait at all or waist your time, mileage, and FUEL taking longer routes and waiting so long to turn the car off? Yes, you definitely have "sludge paranoia", maybe a case of OCD? ;)

Driving down your neighborhood street is enough to cool down the turbo. Turbo timer is a waste of money IMO. Quit worrying about sludge so much people. If you are THAT worried do a cycle of auto-rx like I've mentioned on this forum 100 times. Search engine is your friend.

Re: probably a dumb question but...

agreed with co avant... i have a test pipe so i know that helps it return to normal much quicker but after doing vag logs and all i have to do is drive easy my last mile then let it idle till the beeping stops from the door and its at 400C (normal) even if i just drive easy its about 450-475C which is probably cool enough...

and as long as you do a good trip once every few days, that would be enough to burn out any condesation in there
